Gael, there has been some discussion on this board in the past regarding the "marrying" of flavors both within a cigar and between adjacent cigars in a humidor over long term storage. Should cigars with different flavor characteristics and wrappers be kept seperate while in storage? If so, will a divider suffice, or should seperate humidors be used? I ask you, since I enjoy your smokes and imagine you have much expertise in this area. Others are welcome to answer, but please only relate from experience, rather than what you've read (since I've read conflicting reports on this subject matter). Thanks.

I have long kept all manner of cigars crammed together in my 'dors. I have noticed no ill effects....no marrying. I do make a feable attempt to put nat. by nat. and mad. by mad. but not really.

In my experience, cigars can age side by side without any problems, providing of course that the cigars are not flavored, or scented. The "marriage" of pure tobacco is internal, not external. The most important, and often most overlooked issue, however, are the different conditions needed for particular types of cigars.

As you may have gathered, I am a big proponent of correct humidity levels and conditions for different types of cigars. So, rather than focusing on wrapper "contamination", cigar smokers should focus more on segregating their cigars into correct environments. Example: Heavy Maduros @60-62%, Cubans, Cameroons, Indonesian, and Rosado wrappers @65-68%, and Claros, Connecticut and Candelas @68-70%.

This way, you will always enjoy your cigars in peak smoking condition.

I think Gael was talking about the Cubans that work in his shop in Little Havana. Apparently they prefer the humidity most similar to their homeland.
