For some reason, when I hear radio commercials extoling the virtues of one Federal bureaucracy or another, it annoys the hell out of me. Post office commercials are particularly irksome. I can imagine a team of civil servants somewhere wasting jillions of hours and dollars finding new ways to tell us about how we should use their monopolies as if we had a choice, like those reminders from the friendly folks at the IRS who are so anxious to be helpful.

(In the history of this country have we ever paid more in road taxes or had worse roads?)

Lately I hear Tom Ridge over and over condescendingly telling us that he is not going to ask us to go to work everyday in a job that is designed to protect the country, only that we should make a little kit to do our part. I don't know why it grates on me, it just does. I don't want him to tell us to make little kits, I want him to tell us he is going to kill the sons of bitches that are intent on making us need those little kits.

Have any of you written for the instructions on how to make your little kits? How much manpower goes into this nonsense instead of finding Bin Laden and friends? As long as these guys keep busy stapling papers together and making them into neat stacks, we better all keep our gas tanks full and some cash and little kits on hand, in the unlikely but possible. 9/11 two years and one day later I'm too angry to do a better job of writing this.
