Curious what folks thought of that throw-down.

Pedro was criticized for throwing Zim to the ground...I thought it was reasonable. Looked like a matador with a fat, bald, old bull. Justified, I think.

Zim is a badass. I'd like to think that, at age 72, I'd be willing to take on a 30 year old. He apologized today. I thought he should have been talking **** about it! Way to go, old man!

Rarely do I agree with you, but in this case, Zimmer should have kept his ass on the bench or been out there doing what a Coach is supposed to do! Help to break up the fight and argument before it escalated, not escalate hostilities any more than they were at the time!

The BoSox and Yankees are about as good as it gets when it comes to sports rivalries! The hatred has built over the years and will continue to build! Any time you get Pedro vs the Rocket, what a matchup!

I love the media bias towards New York over all the issues in game 3 Saturday.
I'm a homer, loving/hating the Red Sox since I was a wee lad. But it irks me when folks can't be at all objective.

Pedro threw at Garcia.
Manny over reacted to a high Clemens fastball, barely inside.
Don Zimmer attacked Pedro. Looked like he was going to sock him with a left hook. At the very least he was going to grab him by the face.
Pedro reacted very quickly and threw the old fool onto his face.

And the damn announcers on Fox spewed over how wrong Pedro was, how it was 100% his fault. One of the talentless fools went as far as to say "it's hard to be objective when it's so clearly Pedros fault"

And then the replay proved him wrong....

And I won't even mention the Yankee pitchers in the bullpen puncing and KICKING a Fenway employee.

Wait for the fallout.

I get the NYC channels on my Direct TV, so you wouldn't believe the way they did the story. They even blamed the bullpen employee for being attacked! Apparently, the fact that he was rooting for the Sox means he deserved it...too absurd, this report. ABC, New York. Priceless.

Of course Pedro threw at someone. He and Roger have been doing it for years. Part of the game.

Did you see Beckett brush back Sosa today, then strike his ass out on a 3-2 badass change-up? THAT was a great showdown. I'm rooting for the Cubs, but I am a big Josh Beckett fan and loved seeing this performance today. I was working in Houston when he was a senior and got to see him pitch. He was amazing. Hit 100 on a fastball to Sammy! Exciting stuff.

Funny how the mayor of NYC cried about the Red Sox behavior.
He said "If this were in New York, Pedro would be arrested. That's what we do to people who attack and throw down 72 year old men".

Pedro and Manny started the tensions. I admit that. But they did it within the confines of the game.

Garcia slid high into second, almost injuring Walker. Again, this is within the unwritten rules of baseball.

But the Yankees and thier staff went WAY overboard.
First, Zimmer tries to take out the starting pitcher with a head shot.
Then the yankees bullpen pummel and kick and beat up a Fenway groundskeeper because he was "rooting for the Red Sox".

As Jeff Nelson of the yankees said: "we're not gonna have any of that"...

It's nice to know that some things never change.

Too many players today act like a bunch of spoiled children ... one can't imagine all the posturing and histrionics that we see today when a pitch is even SLIGHTLY up and in ...

Martinez hit Garcia with a freakin' powder puff compared to what COULD have been thrown ... and the pitches Clemons threw to Ramirez and Millar were a VERY faint "message" compared to how it used to be, coming in high, but not off the plate inside ...

Too bad these sniveling millionaire crybabies can't be put in a time machine and sent back a few years to face Bob Gibson or Don Drysdale ... or a bit further back in time to stand in against Early Wynn ... Mickey Mantle said the only safe place to stand when Wynn was pitching was in the dugout ... a sportwriter, commenting on how much he pitched inside, asked Wynn if he'd knock his own grandmother down ... "sure would", said Wynn, "if she were diggin' in on me and crowdin' the plate" ...

If one of these old timers or someone else like them had been pitching on Saturday, we'd have seen some good old fashined baseball ....

I understand everyone's viewpoints on what happened during Saturday's game, but what I found the most disturbing was Pedro's gesture to Posada that he was going to go for his head. If you want to pitch inside and even up in the zone- fine. But the unwritten rules of baseball would never put up with a player openly and blatantly stating he is going after someone's head. I lost a lot of respect for Pedro after I saw that. Additionally, Grady Little's comment that Pedro would never intentionally try to hit someone near the head rings hollow when the man you are defending is mouthing and gesturing the exact opposite.

Finally, I'm not sure if most of you know that Zim was hit in the head when he was playing and was unconscious for two weeks. He has a steel plate inside his head due to his injuries. Not that condones Zim's behaviour, but just FYI. At least he apologized.

IS that what Pedro's gesture meant?? ... I saw the game too, but thought maybe he was saying "if I'd wanted to hit you, I coulda' stuck it in your ear!!"

His gesture is open to interpretation and everyone seems to have a different idea of what he was saying ...
