I didn't say they invented Civil Rights. Actually, the Republicans can probably take credit for inventing it. Emancipation and all that. I was simply pointing out some of the problems Democrats tackled on our watch in response to your question.

Medicare, while on life support, was and is a noble program and another problem Democrats tackled. Needs overhauled but worthy of the effort.

Lastly, could you get a better recruiting poster for Republicans that the Democratic presidental candidates. Makes it hard to keep the faith sometimes. But every so often along comes an FDR or a JFK and we're back in business.

1. The Electoral College is not a technicality. Bush is not the first President to be elected while losing the popular vote. It's the way the system is designed. Otherwise the huge population centers dictate everything. Tyranny of the majority anyone?

2. The Florida Supreme Court has just a little less right to decide a Federal Election than the U. S. Supreme Court.

3. No one ever complained about those stupid old Florida voting machines until a Democrat didn't win.

My point was that GWB and the Republicans weren't exactly swept into office by a tidal wave of support which gave them a mandate. In fact, I would argue that they won because we Democrats have been so inept, not because their message or messenger(s) garnered overwhelming support. In other words, there are a little over half of us who didn't vote for GWB some of whom will be critical of him when we disagree with his policies/actions.

On that we can agree.

Nobody I know of said that GW went into office with a mandate.

From the looks of elections AFTER GW's win, I can see how you'd think that.

I've seriously tried to think of one thing GWB has done for me, or any of us 'middle-class' people ... and honestly I can't think of one thing ...

... but I can think of many things that he hasn't done.

Seems kinda strange to me how conservatives still pump themselves up with the "adultery" card. Regardless of how our current president was put into office, resorting to a previous presidents personal buisness is ignorance and played-out. I would think differently, but too many positives occured internationally and in our economic growth to look at what he did in the bedroom.
As for our current presidential situation, GWB makes me feel unsafe, and this has nothing to do with partisanship. His personal interest runs sooooo deep, that how can conservatives not see what has happened to Texas, and what may happen internationally?
I read a lot of what RickMaven writes and I have to agree is pretty far-left wing, but he speaks the obvious truth in many cases and gets no love for being factually and statistically correct. More ignorance I guess. Just my political .02

Huge population centers = more voters. So what? Isn't it the bottom line that matters? Whoever gets the most votes wins--that's the way it should be, plain and simple. The electoral college, like unions and the two-party system, has outlived its usefulness.

If you make and sell widgets, and therefore need customers to buy your widgets. And your customer's got rebates, and subsequently bought more widgets, did you not benefit?
