Hello all BOTL and SOTL. A quick question. My local cigar shop seems to have a very consistant availability of these Opus X in a variety of different sizes. I can only buy 2 a day, but have worked a system that allows me to get 4 day. They range from 12-15 bucks a stick. I had suppossed these cigars to be very rare, yet I see quite a few of these in trades and such. So, my question is, is it worth the return trips to get these cigars or are they in reality pretty easy to find. I'm more of a medium bodied cigar person, but every so often like one of these. If these are as rare as people suggest, I would continue to pick them up while they last.

Thanks in advance for you help.

If you really want opus you can usually find opus, if you only smoke them on occasion because you normally smoke medium bodied, then save your money and just stick with a few and smoke those on occasion.

Little addition, you could always pick them up to use in trades as there are some people who dont have locals near them and/or dont know where to get them that might trade, or who just want to trade for them instead of buy them.

They are fairly routinely available, in my experience, from the top-shelf dealers of AF smokes. I have one shop where I can almost always buy AFOX at retail prices. Like the previous advice, I just put a few away and have them to smoke for special occasions.

Not rare at all ...

... just sometimes hard to find the dealers that are authorized to sell them ...

I disagree with overrated. If they were as hard to get as some gars and you could only find them at overpriced unauthorized dealers then maybe. But I really like them and can get them for retail or very close to retail and think they are worth it.

It depends on where you are...for me, they ARE very rare. so i got as many as I could from my local shop when they were in.

yep, you can always trade them b/c a lot of people don't have access to them.

Thanks everyone for your posts. I think I'll run down and get some more. I'm looking for a some AF Between the Lines so maybe they will come in handy. I've been searchin for quiet some time with no luck. If someone could direct me to this Holy Grail man I sure would appreciate it. No laughing please! No really, no laughing. AF Hemingway is my benchmark, but I've never even seen one of these. Thanks again all!

Just finished a FFOX power ranger. Perfect constuction, draw, and burn. Smokalicious.

They are over-rated, IMO. However, if you let them sit for a year or two, they get to be pretty good.

I bumped into Carlito Fuente at the Mandaley Bay Casino last Novemeber during the big smoke and he gave me an Opus X out of his personal stash. He claimed it was a special blend made especially for him by his roller. He's is a very friendly and persoanable guy. He also posed for a picture with me. I still have the cigar in my humidor and I intend to smoke it on my 20th wedding anniversary this July.

Wasn't the Mandalay Bay smoke awesome?

I will name drop, I had lunch with Carlos Sr., then went and chatted with Nick Perdomo Jr. and after that made sure to tell Charlie Torano and Rocky Patel how much I love their stuff.

But I have to say, I was amazed and entranced by Carlos Fuentes, Sr. during lunch. He told some great stories and shared some great cigars with our table.

hey, maui's not the kind of guy to name drop for an ego stroke. he's a genuine Good Guy(tm), the kind a lot rarer than an opie, too.

maui: i'd be interested in hearing a compare-and-share about how this one -- his personal blend -- compares to the stuff we schlubs get. wonder what's altered in his version? congrats on your anniversary, a bit early. 🙂

Maui's story is 100% true as I was also quite fortunate to receive one from Carlito also. Of course, the one's that he gave to Ironbar and I were much larger! LOL

It was interesting to hear Carlito talk about them because he kept saying "Don't ask me what they are, but tell me if they are good!"

Oh and by the way, we spent Thursday evening with Charlie and Carlos Torano drinking and smoking 1959 Golds. Both were great guys to chat with. Carlos and I talked for close to an hour about Golf and Marketing. How often do you get to talk to who's name is on one of your favorite products as if they were an old friend. True class act!

I am with you there. I will never miss another Big Smoke in Vegas even if I have to hitch-hike to get there.
