I had a great day today, and wanted to somehow reward myself.

I have had 5-10 Hemminway WOAM in my humi consistantly for 2 or 3 months now, and had only smoked one previously. I grabbed one that had no cello, and looked like it was ready.

First cut was effortless with my SAKnife, and on an especially delicate, small torp. cap, I was impressed with the color and smell of the cigar itself, along with the tobacco inside. This cigar made me very curious, for I have heard it is rolled in Fuente Factory #1, and is only rolled by a handful of people.

I lit the bulbis/nipple end, and the cigar just took off. Immidiate hints of leather, cedar, and very good tobacco. On most perfectos, like this one, I had to do a little pyrotechnic work to even the burn, but once evened....it never had another problem.

The wrapper had the feel of a perfect Indian Tabac maduro, or a darker Brazilia. The taste was classic Fuente....in that it started and finished with glorious spice, and the middle-hour of the cigar was sheer smooth Heaven.

I will not say I am in absolute LOVE with this cigar, but for 8 bucks it's a good cigar to have. It does not come close to an 858 SGrown, or a PAM as far as Super-Premies, IMO.....but I will continue buying WOAM, as long as they make em'.

wow.

thanks for the review, smelly! for a cigar that one hears about often (couched in posts praising it as one of the finest), i had yet to read a first-person review of it. very nicely done!

i'm also glad to hear you had occasion to reward yourself, too. sounds like you chose very well.

Smelly I had the same experience as you with that cigar the first time I smoked it. My overall impression was that it was nice but not the end all be all that some attribute to it. I really don't care for cigars that start out with heavy spice no matter where the flavor profile ends up. I like a cigar to build as it goes along.

On a side note I've found that when I smoke figurados snipping the foot will help in the burn department. Just cut it above the nipple to where it is opened to say 40 ring guage. This will cure a lot of burn issues.

Probably the closest experience I've had to a WOAM are AF Hemi signatures in the maduro wrapper. If its close to that, then we're talking an excellent cigar. Finding a WOAM is not easy, Smelly. Next time we get together could you let me know how you got them. Trade for sure if you're game.

One thing about the Hemingway line is that all of the wrappers are superb. Yesterday I sat down to a Signature with the Cameroon wrapper. I still think this is one of the 2 or 3 best Cameroon cigars out there. The Maduro is even better and if you can find the elusive Hemi sungrown.....well maybe not in my lifetime.

I too would never cut off the 'Nipple' on these, or any of the similar shapes ...

... most of the flavor of a cigar is in the wrapper, and in those first few puffs ... you are geting nothing but the wrapper, and I find it to be a very tasty beginning!

One of my all time favorites. Never had trouble with the burn on these. If you look hard enough you can find these. I split a box a few months ago.

The one Coma sent me before Thanksgiving was the most flavorful smoke I have EVER had. The flavor continued to build right up to the nub. It was like a party in my mouth. I smoked it up on the roof while putting up lights.

I believe Rob (gorob23) and I think alike on this matter, hensed ... we like that 'pure' wrapper taste.

The wrapper is the most important and expensive part of the cigar. The majority of a cigar's flavor is derived from the wrapper, usually around 40% or more, but some will say it only contributes around 20% and it does have a major influence on the flavor of the cigar.

That's why I like to savor the first few puffs of these types of cigars ... 😉

Slim I understand how important the wrapper is to a cigar and I too tend to seek out wrappers and shapes that suit my taste. I have not always been in the habit of nipping the ends of figurados and IMHO the 1/4 I cut off has not limited the taste of them. Quite the contrary if nipping the foot keeps me from having to fuss with the cigar then I end up with a greater enjoyment. But hey to each his own.
