i bought some danish shag to roll my own cigarettes, and was wondering, should i keep this in my humi?? or is the humidor too moist for cigarette tobacco..

glad to see you got a rolling machine, and i hope you like the danish shag -- it's my absolute favorite for RYO cigarettes.

i do store RYO tobac in a humidor of sorts, but NOT with my cigars. i've found that keeping it at the same humidity as my gars is just too much, and the tobacco starts to "clump." you want it to have a bit of moisture and also to preserve the freshness. also, i don't want my cigars to smell like RYO shag. :/

anyway, i keep mine in a well-cleaned (no lingering odor) ragú jar with a moisture disk -- usually about a buck at any tobacco stores and some drug stores, too. they're little silver metal disks with holes in them, about the size of a quarter, that you dip in water and then put into a jar or pouch of tobacco.

you might call your tobacco store to ask about other methods or at what rh% shag should be stored. personally, though, a glass jar with a good seal and a humi-disk should do you pretty well. i re-charge the disk about once every couple of weeks.

a friend of mine uses the agua pillows or whatever they're called -- the ones sold here, little plastic pouches filled with water/gel, with a sticky side that you put on the under side of a jar's lid. another friend uses a humipouch -- a ziplock baggie with a humidity cushion-pouch built into it, used to send cigars via mail and keep 'em humid.

if you go by rh% alone, though, i'd say shoot for about 50%-ish.

btw, if you smoked ciggies before, what kind were they? RYO or readymade or ?

i admit -- i smoke marlboro light 100's. they're constantly on sale here and cheap as it gets for $20/carton. that lasts a month. when i get in the mood i also enjoy a danish shag RYO king-sized filter. the little $2 machine i use to roll 'em makes it incredibly easy to do, filter and all.
