Thanks again for everyone that threw some advice my way on my other thread. Now I've got another question.

Is anyone aware of a laptop/s with the old eraser-type, trackpointer mouse? After trying Sony, Toshiba, HP and Compaq's touchpads, I now feel I could never deal with them. Some of the Thinkpads have them, but if I can keep my budget down that would be great.

I have an IBM thinkpad T20. It has a trackpointer mouse. I use an external mouse instead.

Dell has both the touchpad and the trackpointer mouse.

Don't know how they are priced, but we used them where I used to work..

It depends on which Dell you buy. Many of their lines have both touch pad and trackpoint.

It looks like the "business" Latitude line has a few with trackpoint. Of course the one I would be interested in does not and the others are in the Thinkpad price range so what's the "point."

My work Dell Latitude D640 has both the touchpad and the pointer. After getting used to the pointer I can use it almost as good as a mouse.

I have had worked on or had just about every laptop under the sun and let me say while dell has the best bang for your buck they pulled a fast one on me with a laptop i got from them. With many years of computer work under my belt trust me when i say stay away from dell, just remember "you get what you pay for"

Where I worked, we had Dell Lat 600 and 610...

A problem is that the point stick would "break" from time to time , which would cause the mouse to drift w/o being touched. Had to have Dell tech come to replace. Dell is good on service...

From what I've read, Dell's service has slipped considerably in the last year.
