I think I'm still shaking. This evening, my wife was eating beef kabobs, & she started making this weird urking noise. Then drool started coming out of her mouth. She was choking! I got her up from the chair & started giving her the Heimlic maneuver, alternated with pounding her back. She wasn't breathing! I'm getting ready to call 911 & I'm thinking she'll be dead before the ambulance can get there. I'm scared s---tless! I finally hear her start to wheeze with a kind of liquid sound. She's breathing! She keeps thanking me for saving her life. I'm also very thankful as they would have believed, at 1st, that I had beaten her to death. She's sure gonna be sore in the AM.

It occurs to me that I am now sitting in the catbird seat. She starts raggin' on me & I say "Hey, I saved your life!"

hat,

Outstanding! That is one of the greatest thing you can accomplish, saving your partners life. You also have a "get out of jail free" card now. Get the box of Siglo VI. When the wife complains, you know what to say.

Himlick works....I saved a guy from choking once, when I worked in a restaurant.

Awesome! Good for you. One note though. Back in my CPR training days, they always said to never pound on a person's back if they were choking as it can force the food farther down the windpipe. The Heimlic is the only way to go.

way to go, hat!

if i could make everyone in the world learn 2 things, it would be the heimlich maneuver and CPR. never know when you'll need to know them (but chances are very good that sometime in your life you will). i'm really greatful that in my jr high and high schools health and/or gym classes, we were taught both and certified in CPR.

anywone else get to do the thump-and-blow on "resusitation annie?" i can still taste the alcohol swab on her lips today. lol

Oh yeah, the Annie doll. Always severed at the waist. Rarely would you get one that had legs. We had one once that was electronic. If you did the CPR right, her electronic heart would actually start beating again. She also had a pulse.

i took a heimlich/cpr class with a bunch of ladies doing it for their day care. When it came time to do the heimlich on an infant, one of the ladies hit the dolls back sooo hard that the head fell off. Needless to say, I will not be sending any of my future childreen to her for baby-sitting
