I don't know much about politics and to my discredit, I have avoided learning because I loathe the political bickering among politicians and "regular" citizens alike.

But I have a question for those who readily post opinions on Bush/Kerry/War/etc.

Do you think the candidate(s) of your choice will actually be GOOD for the country,etc. or is it that you think they will be less BAD than their opponent(s)?

I look at voting as picking the lesser of deep evils and have a hard time thinking that any of them will be GOOD in office.

Where am I wrong?

Bush is good for the country because he has the intestidl fortitude to stand up to terrorist and will not waiver or show cowardice regardless of the political pressure put on him. I don' always agree with him but when it comes to preserving life ,liberty and freedom and saving the world from ruthless savages you better hope he is re-elected.!!!!!!!!

You're not wrong. As I like to say, everyone has a vice and everyone has a price. Some politicians probably start out with the people's best interest at heart and then some fat-cat jack-ass corrupts them. Everyone has a price... millions of $'s speak volumes to even the person with the highest integrity.

It's a fact of human nature unfortunately.

War is expensive, especially if you plan on winning. Electing Kerry would mean the death of our economy.

At this stage in the election cycle, you need to stop thinking in terms of voting for a "person." One person, no matter who they are or what their background, serving 4-8 years as President, will not make or break our country. A single person, even the President, doesn't have that much power.

What you need to think about is the overall philosophy of the political party to which the candidate belongs. Sure, the President leads his party, but he (alone) won't take it far from its core philosophy. And he won't get very much accomplished without the help of his fellow party members in the Senate and House.

So, the choice is not: Bush v Kerry. The choice is Republican v Democrat.

Do you want lower taxes and more self-reliance or higher taxes and larger government programs?

Do you want a strong national defense that's respected (feared) or be dependent on the UN?

Would you rather have our troops (God bless them all) in Iraqi fighting terrorist or have the terrorist in US cities?

These are just a few of many, many issues you need to consider. Then look at the parties, not the men, to see which side is most alligned with you.

Careful rd2thbn, you're throwing logic into the mix. A lot of people don't deal too well with that either.

rd2thbn and 428cj, I've voted a Republican ticket since I could vote and that was Regan's first term... But here's the sad truth, our Republican administration is spending MORE than any other administration in history... Yes, I support the military actions, but much of what's happening is the same old bullsh!t that goes on with the Dems. Tax "AND SPEND SPEND SPEND!!!" because if they don't? Guess what, they'll be booted and they know it. The people back home who aren't getting all their pork barrel BS are going to vote them out of office. Why not roll some of the **** back? Why not eliminate a program?? ONE FREAKING PROGRAM!!?? The department of education? WTF? Why do we need a FEDERAL Department of Education?? Shouldn't this be handled at the state and local levels? And dozens and dozens and dozens of other examples... The problem is that people drink the cool aid, they become ideolog’s, they are in the bank as far as these politicians are concerned. So then they cater to "the mooooderates (spitting on the ground as I say that word)" A moderate to me is a liberal with no balls. Maven has balls, he's wrong, but he has balls, he says "Hey I'm a liberal".

The bottom line, and I mean the BOTTOM LINE is that the Republicans are almost as bad as the Dems and BOTH of them suck a$$. They all want to take more and more and do more and more. It’s a feedback loop that refuses to shut down and no one will pull the plug…

God I hate politics and politicians...

I posed this question to many different people over the years ..."What are the qualifiations to be a politician". My father gave me the only answer that made sense...

All very good points that I pretty much agree with. The question is, however, which party is most in line with you? Not, which party is perfect?

For now, third party votes are pretty much wasted votes. Even if a 3rd party candidate gets elected, if they want to get anything done, they're going to have to allign with one side or the other. That being said, if you really believe in the 3rd party, vote for it.

Not voting isn't an option, because that's the same as a vote for the other side.

We live in a post 9/11 world and we need to deal with that fact. Toto, we're no longer in Kansas.

I will vote for the United States of America. In order to do so I will also vote for Bush.

To me Kerry does not have sufficient leadership qualities. He flip flops far too much. Pick a side and stick with it no matter what.

RDC: Totally agree with you here. It's amazing how other issues seem to be so important to people. Without good national security not much else matters a whole lot (of course this is just my opinion). It's nice to have a president who isn't afraid to do his best at reaching this security through killing and/or capturing those who would love to destroy our fine country.
Are we immune to more attacks now? Of course not. Are we much safer now though? I don't see how anyone could argue that we aren't. At least with an intelligent argument. I know, picky, picky!
