Hey all---In regard to the recent debate over the zippo, I thought I'd like to see some opinions here...

I like to light sticks of cedar that I have around the place when I feel a change of pace from the torch.

I used matches & cedar before finally getting a torch. It takes way too much time to properly light a cigar w/ matches and it's hard to get it really even - why would anyone ever waste time with that crap? (besides being cheap...) Torch is the only way to go

I may be in the minority here but I almost always use matches.

Temperature has a drastic effect on the taste of a cigar. I find that matches allow me to light at a lower temperature and get the most out of my cigar.

The exception to the rule is windy days. Just my .02 worth.

definitely a torch, nice even toasting......my favorite is the 6-incher wind-resistant from the charcoal grill

CBid matches 🙂 'cept while golfing, then I use a cheap disposable.

Bic for me. Honestly, after having been to the factories (Honduras/Nicaragua) and witnessing some of the 'giants' of the tobacco world (Nestor Plasencia for one) using their fingers to 'cut' cigars and bic disposables to light them, I figured it was good enough for them....

Matches mostly but I've been known to use my propane torch here at the homestead.

Torch. I prefer the single torch variety (better to even out the burn on runs) My current favorite is the Dunhill Unique Torch. I also use a Bic or my grill lighter. It is just a pain to light a cigar with matches.

Except our favorite matches from cbid..Right??

You know the ones they only give away if you buy a lighter....

OK, I thought I was the only one that caught how ironic it is to give free matches to a customer that is buying a lighter. 🙂

I prefer to use a single torch, but I have four of them (three purchased from CBid) and none of them are working! Ironically, it was the cheapie that worked the longest and the Colibri Magnum that worked, sporadically, for a couple months before dying. Smelly told me that his Colibri Magnum has also stopped working. I have been told they are all extremely temperamental. Now I am using matches. :^(

I'm lucky, as a fairly new cigar smoker, to be able to glean all the wisdom here. I keep hearing about non-working expensive torch lighters. I bought just one from a tobacconist near me, then got another as a throw in on an Ebay deal. The Ebay lighter was DOA; the one I bought worked for about 3 mos. My disposable lighters keep working, and if one dies, who cares? It cost like 20 cents. The disposables don't have the cachet of a Colibri, but if I wanted cachet I'd be watching Queer Eye (which I DON'T!!)
