Should I let my 9 yr old son watch it. I haven't seen any, so I don't know. Thinking about renting part 1 this afternoon.

There is quite a lot of violence and swordplay in the movie, but most of it is against ugly monsters and demons. I would think that that is o.k. I love the books quite a bit and the movies are great. I think he'll like it

very intense!!! and lots of Scare factor. If hes good with that then your call. My 11 year old had difficulty with #1 when it came out a few years ago when he was 9. We had to prevent him from seeing the next few. The last one is the most intense. your call but .....

Yeah, there are some scary parts in all of the "Ring" movies as well as violence (orcs getting their heads chopped off). But the bad guys deserve it and the good guys win. I say let him watch it. He'll want to watch it again, and again, and again... 8')

yeah mine later read my books (1 and 2 he hasnt read 3 yet) and he and I watched the second one fine. he has not seen the 3rd yet. Wife and I went and saw it. He wants to and will probably see it on rental. HE was frodo for holloween 🙂

Still it is INTENSE! not for the faint of heart. yes good prevails over evil but still very violent and good nightmare/dream material for the youngones 🙂 to much so that we cant rent as family to watch with the 6 year old. She just plain freaks even at previews.

The "message" of the story is the classic "good against evil". However, it has a religious line. Tolkin was a Christian and wrote the story to reflect that. It is VERY good and my 5 year old loved all three...

I have the triology on DVD ... and everytime I watch it ...

... I see something I missed the times before ... and understand it more and more each time.

It's very complex ... but the younger mind will love the special effects.

I would say that there are four main themes of the trilogy....certainly there is a religious one, but of the four it is the least noticeable. The other three are man against technology which I think comes across in the movies more than all of them, Frodo succeeding as everyman, and there are real connections to World War I and II.

excellent trilogy with two more in the works: The Hobbit and I believe something about the elves.

My son is 8 and he has the extendend versions of 1 and 2 but didn't want to wait until Xmas to get the extended version of 3....but dad will... 😆

the only good one was the first, IMHO.

I will have to agree with you there. I have read the books so many times that I am rather particular about the way they were respresented. The second and the third were visually appealing, but the story wavers too much for me from the books. The first one, I have to say that the opening scene after the credits in hobbiton, I'm not ashamed as a man to say that I started crying because it was exactly as I pictured it in my head and thats where I want to live.
