Ok, I'm such a newbie....things seemed so much easier with a small Humidor (10-15 cigars)....See humidor temperature thread...thanks for all the help there. I was consistently at 63% humidity in my large humidor (75+...I like the big ring gauges.) and tried to gently bump it up..to no avail. Now hoever I have managed to get it up to 73% and damn near had to ring out my evening smoke (La Gloria Cubana Series R) in order to smoke it....how do I correct this???!!? HELP!!

Propylene Glycol should bring it down. I get mine from Wal-Mart. Also, a small bag/container of rice will bring it down too.

Mav...alot of times too if I get my humidifier too wet and humidity climbs, I just take out the humidifier and set it out for a day, try again, if still too much do it again for a day. I find the humidor will hold the humidity pretty good even without the humidifier for a few days.

Did you cal your hygrometer?

I prefer my humi's to sit around 73%, I think I read somewhere that in most of the Islands that these gars come from the hum level is anywhere from 75 to 80%. I beleive if its good there why not here.

73% isn't bad for storing them, but not good for smoking them. I'd get a little concerned if it got much higher than that -- I've had some cigars split from too much moisture at 75+%.

My humi tends to fluctuate, albeit very slowly, between 70 and 74 percent. I haven't had any problems yet, knock on wood (spanish cedar, that is).

Hope it's not too late.
If you bring the humidity down too fast the wrappers will also split because the filler will have a higher humidification reading (the wrapper reading will be lower). Starting with taking the humi device out is a start. Good luck.
