God and Politics: The Controversial Faith of George W. Bush
http://www.cbn.com/CBNNews/News/031205a.asp

Mr. Bush jolted the religious establishment when he was asked to name his favorite philosopher in a presidential debate, and he responded, "Christ, because he changed my heart."

That change began a decade before, when Bush says the Reverend Billy Graham "planted a seed in his soul" that led to his recommitment to Christ.

White House insiders say, despite his public professions, the President's convictions are intensely personal. "He's not someone who wears his religion on his sleeve," said Jim Towey, the President's handpicked director of the Office of Faith Based Initiatives.

"He may talk about the importance of God and the primacy God has in his life, but beyond that you're not going to see him, I think, sharing personal thoughts about his own journey," Towey said. "And I think that's because he sees himself as unworthy of God's favor, and grateful for it. And that's why, I think, there's a real humility to how he accepts the graces and favors God has conferred upon him."

The President's openness about his faith makes him both the subject of praise and the target of ridicule. On the religious Left, some call Bush's religious rhetoric reprehensible, saying his framing the war on terror as a "fight between good and evil" stirs anti-American sentiments.

And this is why the LEFT Hates the Man so much!!!

I had the great good fortune to see Billy Graham back in the early 70's. A very moving speaker. Almost made me want to believe it was true.

that's not it, though, russ.

it's the man saying he's going to help the environment and then gutting the budget after reaping the rewards for saying "i'm gonna help the environment."

now insert instead of "environment" words like "students," "workers," "elderly," "middle class," etc. etc. etc. -- and it's the same story.

praise himself for program XYZ
gets applause for program XYZ
guts the budget for program XYZ
program XYZ falters and dies

it has NOTHING to do with bush's relationship with god -- and just because kerry doesn't go around touting his relationship with god, i wish folks would knock of bashing HIM as well. any candidate's relationship with god is between that person and god -- period.

what i'm concerned with is whether or not a candidate FOLLOWS UP those morals with actions. for all of bush's self-praise, i just haven't seen it bourne out. in fact, i think the man has done some pretty "evil" things in his 4 years in power.

sorry to bust your laughter bubble, dmv, but i was born and raised in the city where earlham college is based. i grew up very much a part of the college's environment.

ms. vanderslice is accused of being, what, a godless commie? lol earlham is a CHRISTIAN COLLEGE. the org. she was active in was about how to put CHRISTIAN MORALS into every day use -- by feeding, clothing and ministering to the needy. the earlhamites don't view "chomsky as a diety." they view GOD as the diety that is the ultimate authority in their lives.

they choose to actually put christ's words into action. how horrible of them, hey? how horrible that john kerry chose such a woman to help in his campaign!

Burst MY bubble? Hardly.

"and just because kerry doesn't go around touting his relationship with god, i wish folks would knock of bashing HIM as well."

...after reading the links you'd see that this certain "someone" who attended this certain "college" has a bit in her mouth! Then after your last comment Cav...now I'm really laughing! Don't even start up because I do remember a certain "someone" on Ash Wednesday that took it upon himself to make a photo op with a smudged cross on his head!

Ya know... I think just about a third of the posts on this "miscellaneous" board are about politics, religion or both.

After the election is over, can we just shut the f**k up about it?

Jiminy f'ing Christmas!
