Ok...i am scheduled for surgery on the 21st of October...anybody have any experience with this...

I have known people who have had great success and those who have not. They have wanted to do my left shoulder for over 16 years but I have dodged the knife. Six knee operation and a double hernia are enough for me.

It hurts! I had surgery in May of 03. Do your rehab. Give it time. I had other problems as well. Been using the gym since Jan. Just reaching a point where it is feeling normal. But I'm pain free. Hopefully yours is simpler and you will be perky as all get out in 6 months! Good luck!

JOE; Are you sure, know 5 poeple that have had it 2 are happy they didit 3 would not doit again. I work as a mechanic and need it but just no brave enough with those odds.

Wow...this is very interesting...would have hoped for better experiences to feel confident about this..but geeze...

And really dont have much of a choice...did this playing baseball/softball...at first they gave me PT for about a month and a half to see if it would get better...but nope...

Then the MRI confirmed that i definately had a tear...and the dr. also said he was going to scrape some bone to hopefully get me back to full movement...

And then i see my pops today and he said my uncle (mechanic) had this and it took him forever to get back going to normal...almost 2 years...my jaw dropped...but then again i am not a mechanic so i dont think i will but more undue stress on the operation...

Joe, my brother has had this in both shoulders. He recovered and was back at work in 6 weeks each time. Which is not bad since he had to be at 90% before they would release him. Both were injured in fights at work. He is a county jailer. He said it hurt but he would have the surgery again in a heartbeat. He has had absolutely no problems since then. The rehab as with all major surgery is quite painful. If you have any questions just ask I speak to him quite often.

Got a good friend whose 17 year old kid just had his shoulder done in August. A shame he hurt it so early in life, but he'll heal just fine cause he's still young. It took about a month to get full movement he says, but he's got NO PAIN now. He goes to therapy weekly and he's making good progress. He can't throw a ball for at least another 6 months maybe longer depending on follow up MRIs. Hope it works out for you. Best of luck.

My son had it done a couple of months ago. So far so good, he is still in physical therapy.

my best friend had this done a few years ago (technology must be better now). It took him 1 year to recover. It never got back to 100%, but he is much better off after having the surgery. He would give it a go, but be prepared for some discomfort.

Joe, I had this surgery in 1989. Had 3 torn muscles and torn rotator cuff. Was in sports and opted to wait until after the season to have it done so it got progressively worse till I did muscle damage. Took 3 weeks before I was back in the gym after self rehab program per doctor's instructions. (no weights just range of motion exercising) By the 6th week things were better and range of motion was coming back. After 8weeks some pain was still there but muscles were improving. Took total of 8 months to get 95% of range of motion and 110% accuracy and strenghth back. Now I have not had any trouble with it. With medicine better now things have to have improved with rehab exercises, I can only imagine ther recovery period getting shorter. If you have any pain at all, it's not much of a decision. Get it done. However long recovery takes, you will feel better in the end. 20 yrs. ago you would be SOL.
