Has anybody else gotten a letter from the board of equalization as a result of info given them by this site? I just recieved a letter stating that I owe taxes for cigars purchased here.

Must be a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania deal. Some sites do not ship to their home state, but serve customers from a different state.

WSCCOACH: We provide no information of any kind to any state, except Pennsylvania and that is only to pay the required sales tax. If you can, fax a copy of the letter to me at 484-821-0843. Thanks, Keith

Hello WSCCOACH. I would still like to know which state sent you the notice and where your cigars were shipped to.
Thanks.

Ladies and gentlemen:
It is a true fact that the state governments are coming into your homes to tell you that you must pay a tobacco tax. It is happening all over. The hard fact is that they can do it, and they can sieze property or put a lien against it to make sure you pay. Maybe now you will all join the fight we have been in for a long time-the fight to keep our freedom, and the right to tell our legislators how to vote. Right now we have a bunch of money hungry goggle box do-gooders looking to tax everything you have related to tobacco. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to tax your humidor's next. The state's are sharing information and I think you will soon be getting a lot more of these letters. I wonder when I will get mine. The only way to get around this tax is to send the cigars to the department of revenue/equalization. Kind of defeats the purpose. IMHO, I think it may be too late to do anything about it, and before I get off my soap box I have to say "I told you so" because I have been on this soap box for a while and nobody listened. My recommendation is that all of us pay closer attention to the tobacco related laws being put into effect, and VOTE!!! Hell, I hear you can't smoke outside in some parts of the country, what's next-can't smoke in your home or in your car? Pardon me for being such an alarmist, but it looks to me like the tax Nazi party is geared up and looking to invade your pocketbook on a personal level now.

In California, officials found that a 50-year-old federal law called the Jenkins Act was still in effect. Under the Jenkins Act, anyone who ships cigarettes must file monthly reports to the state that detail the purchaser and the amount purchased.

It doesn't say anything about cigars, and one article on the web I read (from the Washington Post) was over two years old ... so all tobacco products may be included now. The only problem is, I can't seem to find any up-to-date info on it. It's all several years old.

Let's hope that it does not come to this ... or at least someone tell me where I can find some recent information on this!
