drill a small hole through the aluminum frame of the door and the part it slides into at about eye level. don't go through the outer moulding. insert a machine screw or nail into the hole. you can put a piece of tape over the nail for extra security.

tomorrow i will post a picture of a way to have a sliding screen door close automatically.

You need to be able to remove the pin quickly in an emergency. You can buy a pin with a chain on it or drill a hole in it and put it on a key ring. Making the pin location obvious is not a bad idea either.

If you slider is an older model that can be lifted out of it’s track make sure the pin will holds it down vertically. You can also screw a small bock to the top of the frame to prevent removal.

I used a pin on my slider. Cheap, easy, strong, quick to pull in an emergency.

But how do you make the screens slide easily?

Round rollers, replacements are sold, and 100% silicone spray.

My Akita learned how to flip the latch and slide the patio door open (although she never did grasp the idea of closing it behind her) ... we've had to use the pin just to keep the dog from operating the door ...
The screen was a different thing, however ... when she couldn't slide it as easily as she had the door, she simply tore it down ...

Not that I'm recommending this method to you, El ... it's just an innovative way that the problem has been solved ...

On the screen door, what Gene said. I take mine down once a year, power wash the track, lube and adjust the slider wheels. Slides with 1 finger.
