This is Ben, just about the best dog ever. Christine and I got him as a rescue, and when I think about the condition we got him in, it makes me fighting mad. He came to us not just malnourished, but skeletal. He weighed 63 lbs (for a dog his breed/size 90lbs. is normal), was shot through with worms and lice, and matted so bad you couldn't touch him for the filth. He is now right around 8 years old, and living out his twilight years with all the food, care, and attention he can possibly want. P1030937.JPG

Even as an owner of a Bernese, every time I see one...ya just can't help but think what a beautiful animal they are.

Read quite a bit about the Bernese Rescue Dogs that are seemingly all over the country. Good on you Dave for giving Ben a better home, and a better life!

Like Bosko, even at 8....he still looks like a young dog. And we both know 8 years old for a Berner is certainly not young 😉.

Yeah, he's an old man for a Berner, but he still frolics with our German Shepherd like he was 2!

We figure he is making up for the rougher life he had before. 🖐

That is an awesome story. I love animals.

Rescuing them is the way to go, IMO. Both my cats were rescues and they rule.

That's great that you were able to rescue him and give him a better life. That sure is a lot of fur though, I'll bet you have a furminator?

Awesome!

My friend and her husband run the local "sparrow club" and got a bernie for a therapy dog as well as a pet. Goofy friendly and beautiful animal!
