This is a pic of a box of white owls from the 50's. Its blended with some pre embargo cuban tobacco. Just thought some people might like this.

FWIW, cigars of this type are known as "clear Havanas" - where the tobacco was imported from Cuba and rolled in the US.

We passed one around at a herf about a year ago, I want to say it was from the 1930's, but I'll have to double check on that. Quite surprisingly flavorful cigar.

Yeah we were trying to get a date on these. We estimated they were from the 50's. Although it definitely is possible they were from the 30's. The box has them priced at 6 cents a cigar. Scotty did give me one but I don't want to smoke it. If I can get another one then I will smoke it. Maybe do a review.

I never saw the box from the one Mario passed around. I think he said 30's - I sent him a note asking, but it really won't matter that much for dating yours.

If you have access to the box, this page might be of help for determining a date.

I think 6c a cigar might be a bit high for the 1930's. I seem to recall reading somewhere that White Owls cost 5c per cigar in the 40's, but I might be remembering it wrong or the info might not have been accurate.

I smoked a few of these in the early 60's along with other clear Havanas from my dad's stash. Had to sneak 'em out behind the tool shed but I still remember that smell was pure barnyard. YUM!

Others that made these were Red Dot, Roi Tan, etc.

I have been on the lookout for Clear Havanas for a while now...

TG Thanks for that site. So with a quick reference it looks like these cigars were from 1943. Based off the tax stamp and series number. Kinda cool.
