At Rome Italy's airport, US Airways, American Airlines, United, Delta, Continental, and El Al all have a separate terminal for check-in. No other airlines use it. There are no actual gates there. Once you check-in, you are bused to an actual concourse where the gates are located.

The only thing missing was a big sign saying "CAR BOMBS ENTER HERE"
