I have smoked Rockey Patel cigars for years. They are one of my favorites. I bought a box of R4's here. I hate to say this but they are the poorest quality cigar I have bought in 10 years. Over half of them had such a bad draw they I threw them out. The few that did have a decent draw burnt terribly. What a disappointment.

Sounds like a VERY accurate review that matches my experience with R4's precisely.

You should do reviews professionally.

Honestly, if you had such a problem why not call the customer service center. I am sure they would have made it right by you.

🤔 Wonder why you wouldn't just let them age in your humidor? A bad draw and burn would obviously mean your cigars needed proper humidity for a few months maybe. The 7.5x52 Double Corona 5 pack I smoked tasted great. Not the best cigar in the world but in no way bad. Don't follow the reasoning behind actually throwing cigars away because of the draw and burn, without trying some other options, like dry boxing them for a day or two before smoking them. Actually, over the dozen years I have been smoking, I have NEVER heard of anyone throwing cigars away for the reason you state before letting them have ample time in their humidor. That's just plain CRAZY! 😳

The R4 that I tried yesterday has been in my Humidor for about a month (same results). I still have 5 left. The reason I threw them away is the draw is so bad there is no way they would improve to a smokeable state. Honestly you had to draw so hard that it was like a complete blockage.

I must say I quite agree with this review and I would add they introduced a foul odor of ammonia to my humidor for a year. Kept them around thinking since they were a Patel they would improve and be a serviceable cigar...they never were. Not on my list to re-buy.

The wrappers on the ones I tried busted, flakily fell apart, or unraveled. Otherwise all of them were suffering from the worst case of Rockypatellis (i.e. Canoeing, uneven burn) I've seen to this date. Otherwise they tasted like chemicals and left a blue foul smoke aroma in the air around me, a la petroleum refinery plant discharge. Never got through 2 inches of any of the five I tried. No amount of humi time could make this cigar serviceable IMHO. Tell us how ya really feel stogie.

I bought a bundle about a year and a half ago. Although the wrappers were a little fragile, the draw and burn were excellent. They were tasty, and I enyoyed them, but they are what they are - a BUNDLE cigar. Havn't bought any since - too much better stuff out there.

Maybe that Rocket Patel was doused in jet fuel?

They didn't taste good enough for it to be jet fuel. Seriously.

I'm a big fan of Rocky Patel...and of Corojo cigars (...or at least the Punch Rare Corojo anyway.) But the 'R4' Corojo Double Coronas that came from CB last month were absolutely disgusting.
I may be more tolerant than most and will put up with a bad draw if the taste of the cigar is worth it. These tasted bad enough that I couldn’t smoke them to a point of having a problem with the draw. They came in a bundle of 20 and I’ve tried 2. Cut the second one open to see what it looked like inside, expecting to find hashed up short filler and twigs (...it tasted that bad.) But it was beautifully made; nicely bunched long filler tobacco perfectly rolled - so a little puzzling. Lit the filler without the wrapper, and it made a world of difference in the smoke quality, so the wrapper appears to be the issue.
I’ve since read other comments about aging them, but you can ad my name to the list of those that don’t think any amount of time is going to help this cigar.
Sure wish I'd stumbled on this thread before ordering.#-o

I've had a 5er of toro corojos aging for several months. I have seen mixed reviews about the R4 in the past.

Shame on you all! You know the ol saying........

Try to age a dog rocket and in a couple years you will still have a dog rocket. That's like trying to age a bottle of single barrel Boone's Farm. 🤦

JMO of course. You guys that enjoy mediocre cigars........smoke on brothers!!!!

and Merry Christmas!

but, imho, there are a few select inexpensive cigars (from well known manufacturers) that age well, and do in fact improve significantly after 12 months or so......
and, no, ya noobs.................I'm not telling ya which ones.............pay your dues!!

Except for the box of RP 500 Home Run Series box I bought to support the Shpo owner in MI when I travel home.
And truth be known I think Gary's (Sheffield ) cigars are not too bad!

I would try the Sheffields except that he dogged it so much and treated everyone with disdain when he played for the Dodgers that I would subconsciously prejudge the cigar as a turd.
