Found these on my last trip out of the country. Anyone know how to tell if they are real or fake. The fiver has a seal on the bottom edge that looks pretty legit. I have yet to smoke one as I want to give them a little rest because I bought them from a small stand off the beaten path. Only paid $30 so I figured I would give it a shot.

Cuban cigars NEVER come in glass top boxes. Ever.

They are fake.

This is a joke, right?

You've got so many elements of the classic bought fakes story in there... "shop off the beaten path" "got a great deal" "only $30" all you're missing is "I talked him down" or the mysterious cousin that knows someone who works in the factory and brings them back.

What Mike says, plus there are no Cohibas in glass tubes. The only Cuban cigar I can think of offhand that came in a clear tube was the Guantameras - and those were plastic tubes IIRC.

I wouldn't recommend smoking them as from what I've seen in the ones I've cut open, they might not be 100%l tobacco.

Oh man, I take it you didn't get a chance to read that article in the Cigar Afficianado mag I left in the bathroom about glass top boxes. The good thing is they only got $30 out of you.

Actually I was being serious. This was my second attempt at trying to score some Cubans. I thought it was too good to be true but took the gamble for chits and giggles. Thanks for the update fellas.

Shump, nope never got to read that article and now its too late...

Thunder, actually I did talk the guy down from $75. Seen the same fiver at other high touristy places and they were asking $120.

So what is the final word, should I smoke any of them or toss the whole lot???

I've had them drop the price to 5 bucks before... I still didn't buy... I think I will next time just for the hell of it... 😟

You could save them for a puff-puff-punishment pass. Send them around a few times, then cut them open to see how many banana leaves and only god-knows-what else you smoked.
