Anyone work at a place that follows what I call Python logic? It drives me crazy! What is Python logic you ask? Here's an example from the movie The Holy Grail.

BEDEVERE: There are ways of telling whether
she is a witch.
VILLAGER #1: Are there?...
BEDEVERE: Tell me, what do you do with witches?
CROWD: Burn! Burn them up! Burn!...
BEDEVERE: And what do you burn apart from witches?
VILLAGER #1: More witches!
VILLAGER #2: Wood!
BEDEVERE: So, why do witches burn?
[pause]
VILLAGER #3: B--... 'cause they're made of... wood?
BEDEVERE: Good!
CROWD: Oh yeah. Oh....
BEDEVERE: So, how do we tell whether she is made of wood?
VILLAGER #1: Build a bridge out of her.

I've been in meetings that follow a parallel line of reasoning. Makes me wanna dope slap the entire group for wasting my time.

I feel you bucky, that's why the forum is so good for me, it gives me a break from all that.

I just left a place like that and am feeling much happier now. Of course, now I have to deal with the logic of high schoolers...which is not that far off.

Yep I used to laugh at these meetings myself....

2 ours of time spent losing more information then what you began the meeting with... and nothing gets resolved therefore another meeting will be called in the meantime the boss's are running around trying to get a feel of how each individual felt about the previous topics discussed??? LMAO!!!!

oh yeah....and the fact that no one can speak english anymore. Thats not to say that they don't know how, it's just that its nothing but shifting your pardigm this way, changing you coporate flow from one area of positivity thinking to another. and in between that there is a barage of acronyms. I actually asked one time if anyone knew what s.w.i.f.t. stood for and they had no idea. Once they asked us to become "possibility thinkers" I told them that I was thinking that there was a good possibility that I wouldn't be doing that. Needless to say...I think they were happy when I quit

"creating revenue streams" "adjusting the paradigm" "looking outside the box" "observing economies of scale".

Better yet, being in a meeting with the Big Cheese and no matter what he says, everybody goes into Blazing Saddles 'hurrummmph' mode.

'I didn't get a hurrummph outta that guy..'

HURRUMPH HURRUMPPH!!

this is an actual conversation I had with my boss

Boss: we are really going to need you to be on your best behavior today. You need to provide excellent customer service

Me: Don't I do that everyday?

Boss: yes but the bosses are coming today and so you need to make sure you are doing your customer service

Me: aren't we supposed to provide customer service for our customers? What do our bosses have to do with it?

Boss: We need to make sure they see you doing it

Me:Isn't it more important that my customers see us doing it?

Boss: yes

Me: then why are we having this conversation?

Boss: I don't know

Me: Thank You for taking me away from my customers

My boss likes to do that flawed logic also. example:

I know networking and programming.
Computers are networked and programmed.
autoCAD is on a computer.
Rob knows autoCAD and should support our hardware on it.

I mean I don't get it. Instead of hiring someone experienced with this crap, they are sending me to a week training course in Virginia. They don't seem to understand that I have never ever even been in the same room as an open autoCAD application. Yet, I'm know computers so I'm "the most qualified person we have to learn this stuff."

i got a better one. when i was in the air force at kelly AFB in San Antonio, TX, i was a computer programmer. i was also a UNIX system administrator. apparently, that also made me the photocopier technician! anytime people had problems with the copier, they'd come to me.

"why are you asking ME about the copier?"
"well, you know computers and stuff."
"that's not a computer."
"yeah, but i don't know how it works."
"and i do?"
"well, figure it out. you're smart."

they ended up making me the official tech for the copier. i'm not lying, i actually had a title for this task.

what a world.

You have to deal with a bunch of crap in the corporate world, that's why I left it for a smaller company. 10 people in our IT department, and I love it that way.

LMAO!! They must have upper management seminars for this stuff.

Here is a conversation with my boss.

Boss: Have the people handling the glossy product wear cotton gloves to keep fingerprints off the product.

Me after trying gloves: The product is heavy and slick and very hard to handle with cotton gloves.

Boss: Shipping has some gloves with rubber dots on them.

Me: OK I'll call shipping (so I do and they don't have any)

Me: boss they don't have any rubber dot gloves.

Boss: Ok, have the people cut the fingers off the gloves so they can grip the product.

Me: Ok I guess that will at least keep the palm prints off the product.

Boss just walked out of the office muttering something about me being a smart ass.

Later,

Mike

All that is nothing compared to working for Large City government in Arnoldfornia.

We would have to have a meeting to discuss the meeting to go over the agenda for the meeting where we will be pesenting a powerpoint for the meeting in which we will discuss the meeting we are meeting to discuss.

THEN they would decide on the fingerless gloves.

Cexshun,

You are in for a treat! CADD applications appear to have been designed by engineers, not programmers. The menus and controls operate ‘bass akwards’ to just about every piece of software I have ever used.

http://www.despair.com/  exists.

Can’t you just feel the synergistic collateral benefits of it all!
