When you store various singles together in say a 40 count box I assume you leave the wrappers on to prevent the tastes of the diff cigars from mingling. But I was also wondering how deep would you store various singles? Does it matter if I have a box with 4 layers of various singles laying on each other? Or should I keep the layers smaller to make sure the middle is getting the same humidity as the outside? Thanks for any tips.

Stephen, so you don't get a bunch of flame responses, let's correct your wording a bit. In cigar lingo the wrapper you're refering to is called "cello", i.e. cellophane. Wrapper refers to the outer leaf. JFYI.

I've stored singles 4 high without any problems. As long as humidity can get to the foot, it shouldn't matter. I go through a lot of smokes though, so rarely do they sit in the same place for more then a year. I'm pulling sticks from my coolers to fill my desktops every few weeks, and find I then have to reorginize the bins in my coolers at least twice a year. Others, who don't smoke as much as I, like to rotate their stock once in a while.

Thanks for that. I'll get it down sooner or later. What I usually do is leave the cellophane on but I cut off the bottom fold so that the cigars aren't touching but the foot is exposed. I figure as long as I do that they won't get to dry in the middle.

I used to try and keep 'em all seperate. I would go back and look later and they had all moved around and were partying. I don't bother anymore. Way too much trouble.

I have 3 desktops that I use. I only have singles because I don't have the space for boxes yet. That is until I convert my gun cabinet. (Looks like it is gonna cost me about $250 just in spanish cedar to start the project.)

Anyway, in one section of the bottom, I store about 20 singles with no cello. I don't really worry too much about the flavors marrying. I hear that can actually enhance flavors. The other side of the bottom, everything has cello. The tray up top is mixed with cello on and cello off. I have no problems.

I don't know if there is any logic, never mind science to how I do things, but I store my best cigars together to mingle regardless of type. To open that particular humidor and take a smell is almost intoxicating and none have seemed the worse for wear upon smoking. I also store the lesser quality sticks intermingled, but in different humidors or containers from my best.

It seems to me that every tobacconist I've ever visited stored everything together, either in big humidors or a walk in.
