Making the plunge and introducing myself. My name is David Hetzler. I am currently stationed in Key West, FL. (Almost 23 years in the AF). I picked up the habit while deployed to Afghanistan, starting with CC RyJs. Not a bad way to begin. I have been smoking for about 4 years and it took me this long to find cbid. Like others before me, I need to start looking for larger storage. I am still working on what types of cigars I like but I have found that I really like the torpedo style. I tend to gravitate to the mild-medium but have had a few maduros along the way. My big thing is that I have some really nice cigars but tend to psych myself out of smoking them in favor of a daily smoke. I need to get over the 'special occasion' mentality and light up one of the treasured smokes. Any mental exercises to cure me of this would be greatly appreciated.

If you save sticks for special occasions, you end up with a humi full of sticks you don't want to smoke! I'll set a few back with specific dates to smoke them (liberty for the 4th, MF LE for fathers day, etc) but I love pulling my best sticks without a reason. They're meant to be enjoyed and will often make any occassion special.

I have 5 cigars that I am having the hardest time smoking. They are from 2006 so I know their ready. They are large and will take 2+ hours. I ussually don't get that kind of time. If I can finish my honey-do list fast enough today I might sneak one in. Oh yeah, and the fact that they cost 25$ a piece. That's makes them "special". I gotta either stop buying cigars like that or just smoke the hello out of them.

Welcome David. Thank you for you service. Sit back and enjoy. As far as that problem of which you speak, my company commander used to say, "Smoke'em if you got'em!"

Welcome, David!

I can relate to your dilemna; I, too, have quite a few "special" sticks that I have "collected" and are reluctant to smoke. But, to Joker's point, you end up with a humidor filled with cigars you are "saving for that special occasion" and no room for your daily/weekly cigars. I have found it helpful to have one draw, or tray, dedicated to those "special" cigars. I end up rotating the inventory and forcing myself into smoking them. There is no time like the present; wise words... "smoke 'em if you got'em"!

I did a year without the family in Turkey prior to this assignment. Usually you get a decent assignment after a 'remote' one. Key living is pretty nice, just wish my schedule allotted me more time to enjoy it.

I am headed to the garage in 95 degree heat to smoke my best cigar. I paid 25$ for this one and I have never had it before. Lets see how this goes. I'll be back with an update. BTW it's 6 yrs old.

Took the advice and I am currently sitting on the back porch smoking my PAS Ann 1964(2009 I think). I never thought to track the age until this forum.
