Anyone have a little homemade humi travel pack idea that you can throw in a zip-lock along with a couple cigars to keep them fresh for a couple days... eg when taking a couple sticks to work to give a friend knowing that the transition might take a couple days for the sticks to get from one humi to the other.

I think the humi paks are about a buck, homemade I suppose you could put a little distilled water on a paper towel, but as long as they are in a zip lock and in good shape to begin with I wouldn't worry about it.

if its in a ziplock and its isn't going to be that long, they should be ok.

Could always put them in a tube I suppose.

Welcome Nolan. I use an old wooden Baccarat box I picked up for free at my local. I put a humi tube in it as well as a few pieces of bubble wrap. Been using it about a year now. Does a fine job.holds 15-20 cigars depending on size.

Well think of all the people sending smokes to each other, as long as in ziplock bag, it should be good for up to a week. I wouldn't worry about it. If it's protection you are looking for go to mother ship and get a 5 ct herf a dor sampler. Get some smokes and a case with it.

Nolen, if it's just a copule of days dont worry about it. All these packages that fly around here dont have anything in them for humidification. Theres lots of times that I will set one out for a day before I lite it up ( dry boxing), they smoke better.

Thanks y'all... I guess it doesn't matter if it's just a couple days. Seems when it comes to my cigars this maternal instinct comes out in me.... geeesh, like a dang mother hen!

I got two 10ct packs of the humidi-packs on here for $10...They last for a long time if you keep em sealed in a baggy...They're very handy and one is good for like 20 sticks.

I think some folks are way over concerned about this. When I go to the RV, I'll pack 40 smokes in my traveldor with NO humidification. Some of these trips are a week or more. Last month, I forgot to unpack and left 2 PAM 64s, 2 Undercrowns, a Tat Anarchy, and other smokes in the traveldor. This trip, I just added more smokes to the ones aready there. Sticks had been in a traveldor without humidification for over a month, and smoked just fine.

Exactly

Properly humidified sticks placed in a sealed mostly airtight container will be fine for quite a while

Ran across this older topic and wanted to add that the one exception might be someplace like Vegas. My friend has experienced cracked wrappers after about 2 days in LV. And that's with his sticks in a ziploc left in his room! Of course I can't vouch that they were properly humidified prior to his trip but after hearing that, when I went to Vegas this past July, keep my smokes in a small Tupperware with a 65% Heartfelt small tube. Kept everything good for my whole trip (...4 nights in LV, 5 in Oregon...). Sometimes better to be safe than sorry?

I had it happen in Vegas too, but it was from the fuggin TSA agent smashing a Trinidad Reyes with the lid.

Persons and cigars entering Vegas can see some pretty extreme heat shifts, some parts of the year worse than others.

Last summer, I took a couple of dozen sticks from the southeast to Venice and onward to a 23 day cruise of the Mediterranean and had no issues, using no humipacks. I did put them inside a couple of wooden boxes that were well humidified though. I kept them in the carry-on and was more concerned about physical damage than humidity issues. I figured that keeping them in the hand luggage would also avoid extreme temperature shifts.

At this point, I am leaning toward wide temperature swings being at least as much of an issue short term as humidity if they are in a well sealed container.

I do notice that the purchases from CBID and a well known auction place that are usually several days in shipping are packed in bubble wrap envelopes which I figure are partly for cushioning protection but also should serve pretty well for insulation.

Hope your doing well Nolen, looks like you already have plenty of good advice here...

Couple of days is no big deal - just keep em sealed.

I've never had any trouble over a week with just a zip lock bag without any kind of humidification. I'm always more concerned about the temperature than the humidity when I traveled with cigars. I would not put a wet paper towel in with cigars under any circumstance unless you want a bunch of wet cigars. JMO & YMMV
