my parents wouldn't let me get a liscence until I had a J-O-B....they also wouldn't let me use it unless I got a "B" or better in every class, on every report card. The rule was, if I got a "C" or lower in any class, I would have to wait until the next report card came out to drive....I messed up once and that was a long three months.

Here in CA they won't let the kids work until they are 16. He just turned 16 and has applications out.

He has a 4.17 GPA (straight A's)which saves me a whole $60 every 6 months, big friggn' deal.

oh yeah...any tickets...no driving for six months. I got pulled over for speeding about a half mile from my house. The cop looks at my address, asks "you still live here?" I said yes..."Is your dad home?" yes. Why don't you head there, I will follow you, and lets see if we can't have a little talk wit him.

My dad was in the front yard and watched me pull up with a cop right behind me....I thought I would never drive again. My mom railed at me all night long.

The only thing that will save you now is to make sure he has NO accidents or tickets before he's 25 and hope he gets that job. Or, get him his own policy when he turns 18 and KICK HIM OUTA THE HOUSE.

I've always had this theory. A child is not only a blessing...but an investment. Give him some options. As soon as he begins bring home that paycheck, let him make the choice:

OPTION 1.

Pay room & board, and insurance premiums until you are on your feet, and when ready, you can move out and be totally on your own and owe your parents NOTHING. You can live here as long as you feel you need to, abiding by the house rules of course.

OPTION 2.

Pay no room & board, or insurance. Live here free of charge until the day you turn 21, then you are GONE. You must move out. But...You pay me 10% of all future earnings the rest of your life or mine, which ever comes to an end first.

Too bad it don't work that way, but it's a nice thought isn't it?

Hey Jay... NO it is NOT cutting into my cigar fund.

My son is extremely well behaved, respectful, polite, does good in school etc... Aside from having a messy room all the time, he's a good kid.

I put $150 a month into a savings account for him and he has over a few grand in there from money he has saved too. I'll continue with the deposits and he knows that when he starts working (very soon) he has to put some of his earnings in the bank and the rest goes to gas, maintenance and recreation.

I have a 2004 G35, the wife has a 2002 Civic and he gets my old 1995 pickup truck. It runs great and its free. When he starts college in a couple years, he should have enough to buy a new car, cash, and not have that to worry about.

With his grades he should easily get a scholarship. Dad ain't paying for college and we've discussed that. That is why he knows he has to maintain the grades.

Shawn,

It is a big frickin' deal. That GPA saves you thousands of $$$ each semester later. So... that increase in your premium isn't all that bad in the long run is it?

I dropped outta high school to pay for all the **** I wanted cause pops said "no way!"

I'm definitely paying for it now!

Congrats to your son! No matter how much you complain, we know you're proud as hell of the boy, bro!

Mc Donalds on 32nd st NAVSTA.

Mgr. (unnamed female)

$42,000 annual salary, depending on volume and performance with Stock purchase and 401k plans available.

And, this was in 1992.

I installed and serviced her computer. She gave me the scoop. If the kid likes the job and maintains performance, there's opportunity. GET READY TO WORK YER A$$ OFF THOUGH. Try to instill in him that if he takes the high road, that is not listen to the ribs and barbs no job is demeaning if it means pride and opportunity. Just ask millions of happy Wal-Mart and Home Depot employees.

Have a great day.
