Hey.... I have a lot of respect for our men in blue, and many of my friends & lodge brothers are cops, BUT..............
do you fellows have some aversion to stopping at stop signs and using your turn signals? Is there something I'm missing here?

In my community, and the last one I lived in, I have NEVER seen a cop come to a complete stop at a stop sign, or use a turn signal...........Bizarre.

I guess I should tell you why I'm so fired up. I was run off the road today; up onto the sidewalk to my right, and came to a screeching halt. My dog (from the back seat)launched up onto the dash, scraping the hell out of everything. The reason........ a policeman casually ran a stop sign, coming right into my lane on a narrow street with cars parked on the left. He wouldn't even look at me when he drove by.

EI,

I see your trying to make a point that we are all fallible while driving, but I sort of figure that since policeman ENFORCE traffic law, they should serve as an example of compliance.

Fedex & USPS don't issue tickets for stop sign violations.

Hey, what about those milkmen in those big trucks?

I pulled into the driveway the other day and almost got run over by the milkman. I wonder why he was in such a hurry. Those guys should be more careful.

The milkman huh?

I have that same problem with the paperboy. Always seems to be leaving in a hurry. I'll bet I still have bicycle tire tread marks on my back. He sure collects at my house alot. It's a great newspaper though.

Here in San Juan Puerto Rico, I'll get honked at by the driver behind me if I stop completely at a stop sign at an empty intersection.

I agree with all those other examples. Sounded like thread heading nowhere but downhill when he started it.

Yes, rader1.......

It was a post in bad judgement, reflecting an apparently unique opinion. I was a little miffed from being run off the road by a policeman. I am over it now and have tried to bail out graciously.

It was very nice of you to top it with your "unique" take on the matter.

I can tell you this much... Any policeman out there is required to follow the rules of the road EXACTLY as we are, except in response to an emergency. These 2 rules apply, when they ARE responding to an emergency:

(a) If the vehicle is being driven in response to an emergency call or while engaged in rescue operations or is being used in the immediate pursuit of an actual or suspected violator of the law or is responding to, but not returning from, a fire alarm, except that fire department vehicles are exempt whether directly responding to an emergency call or operated from one place to another as rendered desirable or necessary by reason of an emergency call and operated to the scene of the emergency or operated from one fire station to another or to some other location by reason of the emergency call.

(b) If the driver of the vehicle sounds a siren as may be reasonably necessary and the vehicle displays a lighted red lamp visible from the front as a warning to other drivers and pedestrians.

They MUST use both lights AND siren when they are going to break any rules of the road and when breaking said rules, must still use due regard for the safety of all other drivers and pedestrians.

This is in accordance with the CVC. California Vehicle Code section 21055.

Since I am an MP in CA. I have to be familiar with this stuff...

Good post Macs. I live in a gated community I pushed to have a stop sign put in on the entrance street to get cars to slow down. the speed limit in our place is 20 mph . The other day a sheriff came down the hill past my house blew through the stop at 40 mph then at the gate sat at the red light for over a minute till it turned green . Having been a cops son I have heard it all. Just remember they tell you what to do you don't tell them what to do. That is there attitude.I grew up with it!
