I'm amazed to find so many PhD's on a cigar forum who know better than the people who spend their life studying and treating sick people.

Are you talking about the same medical community that had no qualms over having mercury in silver dental fillings back in the 70's?

Or the gubmint saying AIDS was likely homo only disease in the early 80's.

Or that cocaine was an appropriate elixir for mouth pain?

I try hard to listen and believe everything the government says too. They are the last bastion of America free of corruption. The pharma lobby is one of the biggest payers for access in Washington.

You expect the govt and the CDC to kill the financial golden goose by announcing the shots are full of garbage, and the true long term effects of prolonged use are not known?

........... Really?

Yes. Not everything is a grand conspiracy. Do you refuse all medication or is it just a conspiracy when it comes to flu shots? Doctors used to use leeches and pushed blood letting to release the bad poisons from our bodies but over time and with research they learned better. I'm betting that if you need medication for your heart or liver to keep you alive you'll take them. If given the choice of risking polio or taking a vaccine to keep from being crippled the rest of your life or your children's lives you'll take the pill or shot. I wonder sometimes if our society is becoming more paranoid or if it was always like this and social media is just exposing it. You've got people out there saying the Sandy Hook shootings were a conspiracy now. It's like we need a boogie man out there to blame for all the things in our lives that don't go the way we planned.

Not everything is a grand conspiracy. But how many years ago to congress vote to block citizens from suing the makers of the flu vaccine? Do you think that was them bowing to their constituency? Do you think Joe Punchclock called his congressman and said.... Please protect the pharma giants from lawsuits? Nope.

The legislature took the cash, signed away the citizen's rights to be made whole again, and the machine rolled.

They can bring used condoms into the serum, admit to it and still skate.

For every Conspiarcy Theorist, there is going to be some mind-numbed horse that will continue plodding to the tune of whatever the government tells them. Enjoy your oats.

This thread has been on my mind.

A friend of mine... 38 years old. Married. Two young boys ages 4 and 7. She was 32 weeks pregnant with a little girl.

Found unresponsive in her home the other night. She had been suffereing from the flu for 2 weeks. Get her to the hospital and perform an emergency C-section. Medical staff work on baby for 13 minutes. Baby girl never opened her eyes. My friend, dead. It was thought she had suffered from a pulmonary embolism. Autopsy says natural causes.

Even with this, I will still never take a flu shot, EVER. I didn't do it while pregnant and I will not on my own.

Call me stupid, call me silly. I don't care. My body. My kids bodies. My husband will not get one either. After I had my 11 month old son, I glady got a shot for DTaP even though I had just received a tetanus shot in 2011 after my cat scratched my eyelid open. Those are shots that have been well tested over and over.

This flu shot is just to controversial.

What's a flu shot? (Sarcasm alert.)

I haven't been to a doctor in over 15 years, in that time I've been sick maybe three times, but just head colds... nothing I couldn't shake in 1-2 days.

When I started my new job I was required to get a "fit for work" physical (as are all new employees). They tested everything from my eyes to my hearing to range of motion of my arms and legs, and even some stupid breathing test to see what my lung capacity was (about 130%). When they wanted to draw blood I told them to screw off. They didn't like me refusing the blood work... tough ****, I know I'm not sick, nor do I care what my cholesterol levels are... nor do I think it's any concern of my employer to know. Considering the crap I work with, what's in my blood is the least of my worries. One false move on my part would make national news (literally), and I'd not be around to worry about it.

When I hear people talking about constantly going to a doctor every time they have a cough or sniffle in their nose it just makes me laugh. That skit about germs by George Carlin comes to mind.

There's a difference between having a cold and a Flu that gives you a 103 degree fevor and you start to hallucination. That's exactly how bad the flu is this year. Yes the flu vaccine is not perfect but it's better than nothing. You either don't get the flu, get a mild version of the flu that doesn't last as long or you get the flu. That's it. No one here is talking about hypochondriacs. Just the merits of the vaccine vs these so called cons that aren't based in fact. I'm fully open to the idea that some people might have a genetic flaw that the vaccine might trigger but that's yet to be proven.

I have been getting the shot for as long as I can remember and have not even got a mild case of the flu. I am in constant daily contact with the public so I get the shot. Good or bad, conspiracy or not, I have not gotten sick so I will keep getting it.

I also wonder if there's a reason the folks behind the vaccine campaigns don't inoculate their own...:-k

That's what they used to say about lead, cigarettes, margarine, xrays(radiation), & asbestos, among other things and still say about mercury...👍 👍

We'll know the "truth" in a generation or two, won't we?

All of the above created and perpetuated primarily by private industry with a vested interest in continuing the practice, not backed by hard science, and milk is soothing for ulcers...it just doesn't treat the problem (it is a virus).

The healthcare industry, the CDC, and almost every doctor on the planet doesn't have a vested interest in promoting vaccinations, a group of pharmaceutical companies do. While the early inclusion of mercury as a preservative in some vaccinations was probably a poor choice, it overall hasn't effected the overall positive impact of the program. The numbers prove over and over that vaccinations in EVERY form saves lives. The reason we have the luxury of having this debate is because the program has been so successful at reducing the impact of disease on our society (it is called "herd immunity") to such an extent that those who choose not to vaccinate themselves (i.e. play Russian Roulette) have to date been lucky because the vaccinations are doing their job.

I am vaccinated for everything that I can be and so are my children...I will live through the next epidemic, I hope you and yours do too...
