end of deployment cigars!

My unit has a couple of months left before we get back home.

First some background. Two weeks ago, 3 buddies asked if they could smoke with me on Saturday nights. None of our schedules allow us to go to the cigar club that they have on the FOB that we're at. Of course I agreed. Got together the last two Saturdays and had a good time smoking, drinking near beer 🍺 and listening to music right outside the office.

Yesterday, one of the buddies (a lieutenant) tells me that he wants to buy some high end cigars for our little group to smoke once we get ready to leave out of here. I ask him a price range and he said anywhere from $40-$75 for five cigars.

This little group consists of:

1 uber noob - over the last two Saturdays, he smoked his three first cigars ever.

1 noober than me - started smoking on this deployment with me. He likes VS Connecticut Yankees that he got in his original sampler when he bought cigars but likes when I give him new ones to try out.

1 noob (the LT who wants to buy) - says he smoked cigars in his frat while he was in college. Don't know what kind

Me - noob who will try anything at least twice, maybe even three times. Haven't figured out what I like yet.

So it is the 4 above plus one more guy who quit smoking cigarettes 3 years ago and won't smoke cigars with us on Saturdays but hangs out to drink near beer. He said he'll smoke a cigar with us at the end of the deployment.

I started everybody off on some Naturals and Acids. They loved them. This week, I'll probably have them try a GH vintage 2002 or a 5 Vegas Gold, something on the smooth, creamy side (at least IMO).

Now, if you guys can help me out. I'm a noob and have no idea how to recommend which cigars to buy for us. I'm thinking something in the medium, maybe med-full flavored range maybe $10 per. Something without too much pepper and very smooth. We want to order them now so that we get them and are able to let them rest for a while before we smoke them.

Your helps is much appreciated! 🇨🇮

Man o' War Virtue. Very smooth and creamy. I put a guy onto one a few days ago after work at our TOC. He had smoked maybe twice in his life. I told him that the finish would be somewhat caramelly and sorta like creme soda, but it's still a stronger smoke. He absolutely loved it. They're on the 'not so expensive' side, but perhaps that would leave room for some more pricey smokes so you could have a nice extended duration herf right before you hop the bird.

Remember, "high end" does not have to mean "high price." And just because they are expensive doesn't mean they'll taste good to you.

I got a stash enough to smoke our whole task force out. Maybe not all good but about $2 smokes on cbid. Have a couple of the virtues that I'm gonna try soon. But really looking for 5 really good ones for the price point. May also be able to go up to $15 per cigar. The LT actually said up to $20 per but IMO, that's too much.

BTW, where u at chswrst? I'm on Salerno.

Sharana. There are some folks headed your way soon from here. Is Salerno getting torn down soon? If so....that's us.

Thank you for your service and please extend that thanks to your HERF BOTL!

My recommendation would be for the CAO MX2, currently one of my go to cigars and was one of the first that I started smoking when I jumped in to this obsession.

Could be way worse, I suppose. very primitive tho. We have our own section of the FOB. Within our BN footprint, we've got an MWR, gym, DFAC, and showers. No hardstands tho, which sucks. All porta-johns too. Haji mart pretty close, but the shopette (45min walk from toc) is about to close down as the base closures continue

If you can find them try Headly Grange, or Illusione any one will do, Carrillo Elencos, for ten bucks you have alot of good options, LFD coronado or air bender, or even DL 452, you might even be able to find a Padron anny. for that money. Just stay away from the infused ones

Just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's good, and c'mon, he's a JO and needs to take the advice of his NCOs! I was a JO once upon a time, so don't let him make that mistake....

If your group already likes MOWs, you could go for the MOW top of the line, like Armadas or Special Editions. I'd mooch right here, but just got bommbed back to the stone age myself.

Stay safe at Sharana and Salerno guys!
