There is always a lot of talk on here about the LP Undercrown so I have tried a few and am still trying to make up my mind about them. In a recent trade, Bombdawgy sent me a LP Papas Fritas. Now, being a little stick that is probably made from LP scraps, I was not sure what to expect…and I did not expect much. That being said, this was a really interesting stick.

The stick itself measured about 4.5” by 44, has a nice brown (Connecticut?) wrapper, and a nice earthy aroma. First light and I am blown away by the smoke output. This little thing is putting out more smoke than some larger sticks….and it is a creamy smoke with a long finish. I am picking up a strong earthy flavor with what seems like a little cocoa hiding in the background. The flavors are quite intense without being overpowering. The ash is a nice white/light gray and really held on. After about an inch I tried to tap it and it did not want to fall…I forced the issue as I was driving and did not want ash all over my wool suit.

By the second third of the stick the flavors have transitioned and it has become peppery/spicy with a touch of leather. The flavor switch was sudden and noticeable but not in a bad way.

The final third transitioned (quickly and noticeably) into a solid tobacco flavor. Again, the flavors were strong but not overpowering.

All in all, I was impressed with this little stick. Thanks Bombdawgy!

i heard good things about them, depending how much you decide to pay for them, sounds like your price was right, lol. $8/ea? maybe not.

I recently smoked one that I received from Steve02 in our n00b/vet trade. I really enjoyed the cigar but the price point is way too high! The Mother Ship has them listed at $21.95/Tin of 4 - this would be a really good $2 cigar for me.

I agree....$2-$3 would be a great pricepoint. I don't know that I would pick one up if it had a $5 tag at a B&M.

Nice review Tim

I've been thinking about getting some PFs but their price is a huge turn off.

If you didn't know what it was and you didn't cut it open, would really guess its a short filler? It's worth 5 bucks to me.. It's a good smoke. Better than the semi-known Schizo by far.

Good cigar but ya price point is out of whack for a sandwich cigar. I prefer the man o war puro authentico as the price is great and it's darn tasty

You can get a tin of 4 for $24 from a source. That's a $6 LP.

You guys are crazy to bitch. It's a great stick and you would never know it's short filler.

Too each his own, more for me!

Besides, how is the price point of these any different then baitfish? Just my .02 cents that no one asked for or gives a damn

The baitfish were on FF for $3.50/ ea at their cheapest, making them quite a bit more affordable.

and the PF are also higher in demand.

Personally, I can't tell the difference between short & long fillers while I'm smoking, except the ash falling sooner (big whup).

I hate to say this but the papas fritas is one of The better LP I've had lately. Not enjoying the other lines as much lately except for the pig and sometimes the rat. It's about 4.50 each at my local. And worth every penny. For what my dumb azz spends in over priced over hyped sticks, this Is nothing for me to b!tch about. And I'm sure they will continue to get better with time.

Only downside other then the ash falling soon is the tabaccy getting all up in my grill (as they say) when I try to nub the sum b!tch.

I agree. Again, depends on the preferred smoker but I could smoke both all day everyday this time of year.

Many may think they are not worth the coin as I think many $10-$15 sticks are and arnt. But again, for $6-$7 I can't complain. It's an excellent cigar.

I haven't had one, but it sounds like short/chopped filler, if it's good makes a good cigar.

Guess I just order from CI and avoid all the over bid crap.
