Well I've placed two orders.

First was magically cancelled by them. Emailed an inquiry and the guy asked if I called and cancelled it. Well if I had why would I be asking the order status? So I said leave it cancelled I'm placing a different order.

Placed second order. Got confirmation email. FOR THE FIRST ORDER............

I've had great experiences with that place. Sure hope things don't change. Maybe some decent pipe tobacco will start showing up at auction.

If history tells us anything, it will be bad. Maybe this transaction will break that trend, but I doubt it.

Small company tries to make name for itself by offering high quality pipe tobacco or cigars at competitive prices.

Small company succeeds and gains loyal following. Profits are thin, but that's okay since there are no shareholders.

Large company needing to show "growth" to shareholders purchases successful small company. Applause and fanfare year one because large company "grew".

Year 2 and beyond, all that business is now built into their forecast, so they are back to step one, needing to show growth. What happens? Corners are cut, blends/brands are discontinued not because they aren't good or aren't selling but because they aren't profitable enough -- or prices are increased to the point to where customers no longer feel they are a good value, so they spend their money elsewhere and large company is forced to discontinue.

The pipe tobacco history books are FULL of brands long gone for these very reasons.

Let's hope this time is different, but I'm not holding my breath.

Just got an email from them.....

Hey Everybody,

Unfortunately, another weekend has come and gone. It's a little unfair that the work week is 5 days, and weekend is only two. For that, I've decided to reward you with some breathtaking offers. One of the best parts of my job is doing some wheeling and dealing with the different manufacturers so I can bring you the best prices possible. Sometimes I do get a little carried away though, but that is what allows me to run specials such as these and get you some of the best prices available. After the great response we had last week, and the spectacular specials on the pipes I realized it was time to allow everyone the opportunity to fill those pipes at an equally impressive discount. Today I am featuring quite a few different tobacco sales, and surely you will find one you can't pass up.

Starting things off, we have the brand new 4th Generation line from Erik Stokkebye. When someone such as Erik Stokkebye releases tobacco in memory of his father, grandfather, and great grandfather, you know the blends will not disappoint. With prices as low as $11.49, you can't miss this one. Staying in line with the tobacco notion, I am also dropping prices on all Sutliff 1.5oz tins. You can grab any one of these 1.5oz tins for $5.95. To round things out, we are also slashing prices on the SWAG by Oliveros. When was the last time you could say you were able to get a 90 plus rated cigar for as low as $74.95? I'm telling you that with prices like these you are going to want to act quickly, because quantities will not last.

I hope that these specials brightened up your week! If not, check back on Thursday for some other insane deals!

They have always had insanely low prices on bulk pipe tobacco, would be very bad to pay 5 bucks a pound more. Dang, I hate progress especially when they have genius tobacco experts to call for the last many years (Russ)
