Hey guys, a friend and I stumbled across an older sealed box (2006 box date) at a local while traveling. There are only five cigars in it, but one had a couple of holes and there were a couple of dead beetles in the box. I put the box in quarantine for the time being, but what else should I do? Are they okay because they've probably long since died, or might there be more that our Mississippi heat could bring out?

I personally wouldn't chance anything and I'd get rid of them. Otherwise try to freeze them and pray you don't have a breakout. just my two cents

Smoke em or freeze em......Do not mix them in with the rest of your stash.Chances are Beatle eggs are present in the other sticks just waiting for the right conditions to sprout.

Freezing shud do it.

Make sure you bring them back slowly. Do not mix right away. Let the RH in them go up slow.

Fridge for a day; freezer for 4 or more days; fridge for a day and put them in your humi. I'd wait a few weeks (months?) before smoking them, however.

Edited to add.

I had to toss everything I owned in a coolidor. nothing really special in there, not decent stuff by my standards today

Life is too short to fool with such.

too many other decent options to take rather than fool with it.

Why take the risk and go thru the hassle?

Under normal circumstances this is exactly what I would do, but these are delicious rarities, so I would really prefer to save them. I guess we could always destroy them by fire, one at a time.

That's what I would do if you really don't want to give up on them. Quarantine them, bring them back to smokable humidity and below egg hatching temp, then spark them up when ready.

What kind of cigars are they? If they are diamond crowns or somethoing very special, the big FReeze should work as pointed out above....if they are swisher sweets then give them to your local IRS agent and pat him on the back and tell him they are diamonds.
After freezing the bring up the rh slowly in order to revitalize them is the perfect thing....I would STILL keep them in quarantine even after the freezing...just in case.
Enjoy! 🇨🇮

Don't mix them in, period. DO smoke them, now. If they turn out to be that good, you've just had a marvelous few days of indulgence.

Thanks for the feedback guys. They are all alone and lonely in a small glasstop quarantine. I'll give them the big freeze and keep them to their own humi until they can be properly disposed of!

Kidmd, definitely not swishers. 🇨🇮

Tupperware might be a better storage location in the event that a new problem develops as it is much easier to clean & sanitize.

Freeze them slowly (fridge - freezer - couple of days)
Bring them back slowly to 70 F. (reverse above)
Quarantine them with tobacco beetle traps for at least a month - PM me if you need any.
Smoke and enjoy them. If they aren't worth the above hassle - pitch them. 🌫
