Going to a conference in Hollywood, CA next month........is there such a thing as a cigar friendly bar/lounge? Any recommendations?

Never been to Hollywood, so I'm no help to you.

However, I think CA gets a bad rap undeservedly. I travel quite a bit and I like going to CA (SD, usually) as much as anywhere. For one, there aren't a lot of destinations where you can still find a hotel with 'smoking rooms'. 2: Even if you can't get (or don't want) a smoking room, you can smoke comfortably outside 95% of the time. 3: I've never had a problem finding cigar lounges, and cigar-friendly restaurant patios (at least in SD - don't know about Hollywood.) 4: The tax is high, but there are many worse places. 5: It's California. 6. While smoking in public, the scenery is a couple notches above just about anywhere else (socal 6 = anywhere else 9.)

Bro, check yelp. Looks like there's tons of shops in and around the Hollywood area. Lounges, shops, even a place that rolls their own and from the reviews everyone seems to like them.

Leon Cigars is a local roller near Hollywood (couple miles southeast), on 6th Street near Western Ave. Decent smokes using Dominican, Honduran and Nicaraguan leaves. I'm not familiar with any cigar bars or lounges in that area. If you're up for a hike and a fantastic view of LA where you can sit back and enjoy a good cigar, go to Griffith Park at dusk and climb to Dante's Peak and Mount Hollywood. On a clear day (few and far between, but with windy conditions in the fall, chances are better that time of year) after hiking up past the Observatory, you can sit back and enjoy a great cigar along with a gorgeous sunset and then see the city lights turning on below you. Bring a flashlight for the hike back down in the dark.

My ex-wife still lives in Glendale, Ca. I lived there for 13 years. She told me that you can't even smoke on your own balcony anymore(she lives in a condo). She said the cops have actually come to the door because neighbors have reported that they were smoking outdoors and gave her warnings.. .

How frking absurd is that?! The world is doomed.

That's a local ordinance, it's not statewide. A number of counties / municipalities have adopted the "no smoking in shared housing" laws and similar regulations are being debated at the state level, but they have not yet passed.

If/when they do pass, I'll probably take back everything good I said about CA. That truly is f'd up. It'll probably take 'em 2-3 years to define 'shared housing' and then f up the definition in the process. I've been in 'ticky-tacky' neighborhoods where the guy on his deck next door is closer than in some condos.

But that's just it, it's not the state doing this, it's a few individuals, the "anti's", who are pushing this to their reps. This is **** that people should have been able to work out like mature adults, but, because one side or the other, possibly both, wouldn't budge, this is the result. This isn't the only state where some counties or municipalities have these laws either.

The common dwelling or shared wall definitions are actually pretty well established. It's not about diluted stuff blowing in through the windows, it's about it seeping through walls and concentrated smoke coming through common ducts. Having lived in an apartment where I had a neighbor who was a heavy smoker, I can tell you that, quite frankly, it sucks. Some people go outside to smoke, he wasn't one of them, the management even jacked his security deposit way up in preparation for the eventual cleaning bills when he would finally leave. It was so bad that everything in my place smelled like his cigarettes. Put a kid or two on the non smoking side, yeah, you better believe that someone is eventually going to start lobbying.

I was recently at a Casino here in CA, where they allow smoking of all kinds on the casino floor, and I had actually smoked cigars and sipped scotch in their "club/lounge" while watching a live band on previous visits, but on this last visit after lighting up my stogie, I was asked to exit the "lounge" as they did not allow smoking. I pointed to the 3 or 4 tables that were occupied by cigarette smokers and replied "their smoking" and then I got "we don't allow CIGAR smoking". I said bull**** get me a manager.

Management pointed to a small sign they recently posted which read NO PIPE OR CIGAR SMOKING, and informed me it was ok to smoke anywhere on the casino floor but not in the "club".
I told him that that was not fair and the I felt discriminated against since they allowed anyone to smoke as many cigarettes as they wanted in the same "club" area but I could not smoke my premium hand rolled cigar.

it didn't get me anywhere, me and my group had half a mind to go back with tons of packs of clove cigs and puff the hell out of the place

It seems very discriminatory and unfair, sorry this doesnt help you find what youre looking for lol

rant over
