So I couldn't deside what to smoke so I randomly grabbed a cigar. It was the cohiba XV. I thought OK that works and I use my lighter punch and the whole cap comes off. Pretty disappointed I chose a cao mx2 and it smoked perfectly.

Punchs are notorious for doing this after like 10 cuts. I avoid this by gently twirling the cap on my tongue, then I let be for a minute or two followed by gently pressing and spinning the punch till it cuts through. Or you can do my favorite and slit a nice hole quick and clean with an exacto razor knife.

Is it because the punch itself gets"dull".....seems there would be a market for a razor sharp punch...
