Our Youth Collect for the Marines
As we approach the New Year, it is a time to reflect on things we are grateful for. Jacob Daly, BAFTY's Social Action Vice President is grateful for all the men and women who keep our country safe. The Marines help us stay safe each and every day, and risk their lives for us. Now you will have the opportunity to do something special for our troops. To the right is the article that Jacob wrote to help spread the word about this very special project.
Collecting for the Marines
Before I start to tell you about the coming project, let me introduce myself. My name is Jacob Daly. I am a tenth grader at Philadelphia Academy Charter High School and I am in this year's confirmation class. Most importantly I am the Social Action Vice President of Beth Am Federation for Temple Youth (BAFTY), the youth group for teen's in 9th - 12th grade. This means I handle any community service projects that happen within BAFTY. In addition, I am also the person who sells pretzels every Sunday morning. Throughout the month of February and March we will be collecting basic necessities that Marines stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan might not have access to. Some examples would be: baby wipes, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, tissues, candy bars, decks of cards, and various other trinkets and non-perishables. Monetary donations are also welcome, as they will help pay for shipping charges. After we are done collecting materials we will send the donations to an organization called "Operation From The Heart" that sends all donations to the different bases in Afghanistan. This is a nonprofit organization that has been sending supplies to bases across the Middle East for nine years. We will be sending out a flyer that will include a full list of supplies to be collected.
I really hope that you take the time to help with this collection and help make the day of someone overseas! ( I removed his email addy since it doesn't need to be broadcast all over the net)
Sincerely, Jacob Daly.
