Anyone ever reconstitute the cedar smell in thier humidors? Obvoisly not anywhere the cigars would touch the wood, but maybe on the bottom of the shelves or somthing

NO! Spanish cedar is not really cedar, it's a type of mahogany. Don't screw up your humidor.

K, shouldve stated all this. I mean the true oil of the wood, can order it straight from certain suppliers. And im not talking about pouring it all over the wood, just maybe a drop in the back or somthing.

You seem uncertain, so to reiterate what mikey said, Do Not Do This! If you get cedar oil - even if it says it's spanish cedar - it won't be the oil from the spanish cedar used in humidors... if you do what you are thinking about doing, you will ruin not only your humidor but also everything inside of it...

Phillip,

Most of the oils we see advertised as Cedar are for restoring the aroma to a cedar closet or a cedar lined storage chest, like a hope chest. The oils in Spanish cedar usually do not need to be rejuvenated and can be "brought out" with a light sanding of the surface, coupled with proper humidification. I do not recall seeing any oils sold for reconditioning the wood in a humidor.

If you wish to try some - I would suggest getting a small sample and applying/testing it outside of any humidor, using a spare piece of cedar. You might want to try it in a Tupperware container and a few inexpensive mild cigars to see if or how much it effects the cigar's flavor. - Just my 2 cents

Just a light sanding with fine sandpaper, like 320 grit or finer, should get some aroma back for a while.
