Hey guys. Thanks to X, my friend and I are now planning project number 2: make a humidor using antique chests that we have been looking to purchase. We already have sufficient amounts of spanish cedar to line both boxes. However, we are looking for ways to seal the box properly, and efficiently, as we are looking to store our "better" collections inside.



Any advice would be greatly appreciated! We want to make something that will last a lifetime. Thanks Guys.

Thanks for the plug Charlie. It sounds like you have all the construction figured out.

The only experience I can suggest it to not worry about a tight seal. My cabinet works much better without. I originally had weather stripping around the doors and found that my humidity levels were much harder to get consistant. I took the stripping off and haven't had a problem in over a year. A constant 68% to 70%, even when my humidifier(passive) is full or almost empty.

I was wondering if anybody knew of some good ways to seal/attach the spanish cedar to the inner lining of the box. I am unsure about using glue, and if I were to use glue, which glues are safe to use. Also, do I have to line the entire inner lining with the cedar?



Thanks for the advice Bud. I'll put some pictures up upon completion, however I will not be in the picture. I won't fall victom to hubcap! Also, we'll post some pictures of our previous project as well. Thanks again.

Good old Elmers glue works fine on wood, you won't need much.

cedar is not a problematic wood to glue, rosewood can be much pickier (very oily)
if unsure what the cedar will be glued to, and its properties then I would go with

Weldwood's Titebond
(maker) (the glue in question)

works good on most all hardwoods (maple, cedar, mahogany, spruce...)

Thanks guys. But should I lean towards specific glues or types of glue, as certain glues may contain chemicals which may seem unfit for a humidor?

Any water based wood glue should work fine....I use Elmers brand, others are also good.

the aformentioned Titebond is non-toxic and odorless. It's worked like a charm in my coolerdor.
