how is that pipe treating you, you like them blends?

Haven't gotten to anything yet. I'm waiting to catch my B&Ms pipe guy to get tips. I'm having minor issues with the smoke so I put it on hault til I get better instruction. I think some easily resolved issues if someone's there to point me in the right direction.

What is the problem?

I'm packing it right (I believe). I can't get it to stay lit. I relight like ten times. If I try for less I burn the pipe hot. I use a torch lighter so I'm worried that using it 10 times in a sitting will burn the pipe somewhere. I have my concerns about burning aromatics in the same bowl as the others.

How are you packing the bowl? I put the first pinch of tobacco and lighty pack it down then the next pinch I pack it alittle harder and third pinch I pack alittle a harder by then my pipe is full. Flake is different methods you can do. Some times you have to let the tobacco you use air out so it will dry out some before smoking. Relighting just goes with it some times I don't have too some times I have to light more just part of it. If your getting the pipe hot you can be puffing to fast or harder which making the tobacco cherry hotter inturn heating up your pipe slow it down don't draw on it as hard. Don't use a torch it will burn up your briar pipes, torch is the worst thing you can use for a pipe. Are you char lighting your pipe? If not try that the tamp it down lightly then relight see if that helps you to keep it burning. Some aros will ghost pipe leave the taste and smell in the bowl only I know of getting rid of the ghost is the salt treatment. A lot of people will have a different pipe for different blends to use even some have a pipe for just one tobacco .

What's the best lighter to use? Matches don't work for me. With packing I do the same as what you mentioned and make sure not to stuff it with the point of my thumb but role it over with the thumb. I think I'm going to end up going with 3 different pipes for different blends for now. I don't understand the salt treatment yet. Char lighting? If this is where I just lite, puff 5xs. Lite, puff 5xs. Then slow it down. Yes.

A Bic lighter is what I use. Salt treatment is where you take the stem off and plug the mortise hole then fill the tobacco chamber up with salt then pure PGA alcohol just put enuff till you see it top of the salt. Just to make sure you don't get the alcohol on the outside of the pipe, it will take the stain off the pipe and set the pipe into a bed of rice which I found works the best on holding the pipe. Keep doing this till the salt becomes clean. An eye dropper works the best on putting the alcohol into the salt. What I do on charing light is I light the whole top of the bowl as just enuff to char it then stop tamp it down lightly then refire.

Rubbing alcohol?

No I would not use rubbing alcohol I heard some bad things about it. Only kind of alcohol that you can drink is what I been told.

Ever clear would be the closest to pure but I'd have to hit MD for that.

Everclear will work I used that once worked fine. You might can try a high proof vodka it might just take more.
