ate a lot of them tonight... Is that just a California thing? I mean, I know we stole it from the mexicans but are they a popular dish in other states?

Jack and Queenie, c'mon out to San Diego, we got a place in Ocean Beach that serves all kind of fish and shellfish as tacos and none of 'em are fried. Broiled/grilled/sauteed.

Dangit, now I'm hungry and won't be down in that part of the county for awhile....

Bur you lucky bastid.

Fish tacos are becoming popular in Nashville, but it's because a guy moved here from San Diego and started a taco shpo.

My fav fish taco's are from a taco cart guy on the plaza in Encinadada, MX. You can see the ships behind him that bring the fish in. He has this sauce that's amazing!

We have fish tacos here in NJ and they are awesome but you do have to watch what fish they are using. Some places will use cod which is my least favorite, tilapia is just ok but mahi mahi takes it.

We might have them here also because we have lots of mexicans here to.

There were some great fish tacos in Key West. I think the best was a little food cart place. So fresh and so good.

that's not the way to do fish tacos....

I do as little as possible to the fish I use... it's fresh or fresh frozen that I've caught myself... Rock Cod and Ling Cod...

cracked sea salt and cracked pepper on the filet... then a light dusting of flour on the filet and olive oil in the pan...

no sauce...

I do a fresh grilled pineapple and jalapeno salsa and a roasted corn and black bean salsa...

and ice cold cabbage...

corn tortillas only...

Might be ok , ( I still like Tuna Steak Ground or thin sliced), But that is not the way most of them are served..

1 pound white flaky fish, such as mahi mahi.......I usually use flounder due to its availability relatively fresh

1/4 cup olive oil

1 lime, juiced

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 jalapeno coarsely chopped

1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves.........I use maybe 1/8th of a cup........not a huge fan if overly done

8 whole wheat tortilla's

Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Place fish in a medium size dish. Whisk together the oil, lime juice, ancho, jalapeno, and cilantro and pour over the fish. Let marinate for 15 to 20 minutes.

Remove the fish from the marinade place onto a hot grill, flesh side down. Grill the fish for 4 minutes on the first side and then flip for 30 seconds and remove. Let rest for 5 minutes then flake the fish with a fork.

Place the tortillas on the grill and grill for 20 seconds. Divide the fish among the tortillas and garnish with whatever your heart desires.Sometimes I do lettuce, tomato and onion.........other times cabbage and a green onion.

Two additional points......

1. I usually use a pan and a tablespoon or two of olive oil to cook the fish.Just as good and it makes this a much quicker lunch to throw together.

2.I use a microwave to heat the tortilla's as needed.

Enjoy

I usually just "blacken" it in a pan with seasonings then serve in a flour tortilla with cabbage, cilantro, green onions and lime juice. Have also made them tempura style.

Corn salsa and habanero mango salsa work well too.
