Yes and no. I keep most of my cigars in the basement in the summer and move them upstairs in the winter. Some people will say the basement is too humid, but I dehumidity mine and keep the humidors and tubadors and least 2 feet off the floor. I think there is going to be a run on popcorn (which also needs to keep some humidity) between this topic and the beads vs kitty litter.

And to answer OP. I have no idea. I cellar wine and beer. I have 2 or 3 ziplock of pipe tobacco so I dunno. Its in the basement if that counts

Tim, I have been cellaring pipe baccy since 2010. I have bought in bulk and packed it in mason jars along with buying tins and stashing them in storage tubs. I don't heat the jars to seal them, just screw the lids on tight.

I have read multiple sources that say that virginias age the best. I don't worry about that too much. If I like a blend, I try to grab some extra and stash it.

Most of my stash is in the basement with about half our cigars. The cigars are in a wine cooler, the pipe baccy is either in jars on shelves or tins in tubs. In the summer we run a dehumidifier to keep the moisture at 45%. In the winter it stays around 30% with the heat running.

So my answer would be "yes" to your original question.

Dayum, another list that proves I'm slumming.

On this trip I brought Prince Albert (in a bag), the last of some Sutliff CD blend and the John Bull Luxury English blend. All of it together ain't worth one ounce of any of your list.

I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy

Oh, and all my pipe baccy stash is in ziploc bags in the garage, high temp in the 90s, low in the 30s and whatever humidity we have in San Diego CA i.e. not much except this weekend.

Wow-that's good, but I'd have to update my will if I bought a pound! You bazzturds already have bombed me with a few years worth of cigars and pipe baccy and I'm back to drunk underbidding. Even won some Fighting C0(k$ so look out! Gotta update my list. My dear old fog of a vet is back at the top (see mooch thread).

I ever get some real money for this hobby and I'll never sample all the cigars and tobaccos I'd like to!

Overpriced does not mean better flavor. It is all in what you like. Do not get Baccy envy. It is only worth it if you like it. Same with pipes. I have had pipes I could buy a months worth of food for, and I have pipes I have picked up for under 10 bucks that seemed better. I carve my own, and I still look for cool oldies. I have had Meerschaum and briar, and each had its place, just like the old Baccy that I used, some for this occasion and some for that, none of it the fancy stuff.

Bur is good people.

Cellaring pipe tobacco tins is known and accepted to be a practice that can result in changes to a tobacco. As long as a tin is sealed, the tobacco within it will age, usually to the better. Aromatics tend to age poorly due to the flavorings. Virginia blends, Virginia/perique blends, orientals, English style tobaccos all tend to age for the better. Once you open the tin, all bets are off. The introduction of outside air into the blend tends to stop the aging process.

I do not buy bulk blends, so I cannot comment on aging them. Greg Pease (the blender of GL Pease pipe tobaccos and recognized expert on pipe tobacco) says that aging them is difficult and usually not as successful as aging tinned tobaccos.

I personally have around 60 tins that I am cellaring. I have one from 2001, another from 2002 and several from 2004 to 2006. 2006 is when I mostly stopped buying more pipe tobacco as I was not sure if I would even ever get around to smoking what I already had.

I celler pipe tobacco.. but by celler I mean, get it in bulk and put it in jars and vacume seal them. I can't smoke it all that fast so it keeps it from drying out.

I don't buy it to age it, more for not being able to smoke it that fast and at some point when they make it illegal or the FDA steps on it.... i'll have some reserves in the house.
