I am finishing up a kristoff sumatra and it got me thinking. I really enjoy the few cigars I have smoked with a sumatra wrapper but I don't know many. So what's everyone's favorite sumatra or suggestions for ones to try? I have smoked a capa especial, cq1, and kristoff sumatra.

The Kristoff Sumatra is a helluva smoke.

La Aurora 1495 is a terrific everyday bargain priced sumatran. My fave is prolly the Ashton VSG, though I really like the Tatuaje 2012 Cojonu Capa Especial too.

I was pretty sure the VSG is wrapped in Sumatra leaf, but I had to look it up. The wrapper is from Sumatra-seed tobacco grown in Ecuador.

Looking in the Perlman's Pocket Cyclopedia, 2011 edition, Sumatra is not listed among the "colors" of tobacco:

Double Claro (DC - greenish, candela);
Claro (Cl - light tan, Connecticut);
Colorado Claro (CC - medium brown, Natural);
Colorado (Co - reddish, corojo);
Colorado Maduro (CM - darker than CC, Cameroon, or Havana Seed tobacco grown in Honduras or Nicaragua);
Maduro (Ma - very dark brown, Connecticut, Mexico, Nicaragua, Brazil);
Oscuro (Os - black).


The explosion of tobacco growing countries and the various shades that cross those categories makes it difficult to keep track.
