The PSD4's I have had , had a dark wrapper variation and light wrapper variation. Well, it seems to me that there is a difference in flavor profile, and I much prefer the taste of the light wrapper... I have heard from others that they have experienced wrapper variations..and the one I just had was a 2013, not as good as the ones I had had a while ago, like 2009 or 2010? any thoughts? If this is all crazy talk, let me know? 🙂

I got a box of the lighter wrappers recently (from apr 13) and they are smoking great, I had got some dark ones from barts group buy the were aug 13 and those smoke the same...... I dont think I have any that were too much older than a year or 2.

Wrappers impart a strong influence on the flavor of cigars. As does age. I'd hesitate to make generalizations based on cigars that are four years apart in age. Smoke and compare a lighter shaded PSD4 and darker shaded PSD4 from the same month/year -- or as close as possible and you might be in a little better position to assess. Or not......you may have already refined your opinion well enough to seek out the lighter shaded ones. It isn't hard to do with some vendors once you've established a relationship. What was it about the lighter colored one that you liked better?

Basically, the lighter wrapper was more creamier and nuttier, which is what I like, and the dark wrapper was harsher and obviously not so creamy and nutty .... just my assessment, but I am not the cigar afficionado that some of you seasoned BOTLS are...thanks for your input

Roger. I misunderstood you to say that the darker wrapper was a few years younger than the lighter one you were comparing it to. Had no idea they were from same box. I've certainly had some variations within a box, but never so much that I'd have categorized them differently.

Up until a few years ago most all Cubans were of a "lighter" wrapper shade. I started noticing darker wrappers on some producers about '06 and many have said it was a change in the overall curing process at some but not all producers to accommodate changing tastes. IE English market vs Spanish market.

It depends on the marque but I generally enjoy the lighter shades myself. There should not be very much variance in shades within the same box though.

Cigars are sorted and boxed by color. If you have a box with noticeable differences in the wrappers, the vendor probably sells singles or 5'ers and sent you a box that came from different boxes originally.

Now the 10 pack I got just not to long ago, are all dark, it was a 2/14 date...and they just arent as good as the past PSD4's I have had in the past, I dont get excited to smoke them, i grab for the Boli RC's instead 🤣

2/14 would be a risk to smoke no matter what marca. Don't write off that box code for at least another year. Forget about general age imparted characteristics. There's no good reason to smoke Cuban cigars less than 8 months old...unless you get to smoke it within a couple weeks of being rolled.

While I have full confidence they're legit as they had the basic Party profile, it did taste a bit different (earthy, leather) than the ones with the typical light colored wrappers. I still have a few resting in the humi to see what a bit of rest does for them.
I too prefer the lighter shade on D4's.
