Been gutting out an ingrown toenail for about a month now. Actually, its been causing me discomfort for about 10 years. I usually suck it up and dig it out with a pocket knife.

About a month ago I decided it had become too difficult to bend over far enough due to my bout with Dunlop disease. Anyway I stubbed it one time too many last night at work. So I came in about 5:30 AM and my wife was awake. I asked her to call the insurance company and find a podiatrist nearby who took our insurance. She found one and made me an appointment for 11:00 AM then woke me up about 10:30.

Long story short the Dr. took a look and said it was infected, I had a nail fungus and as such she needed to remove the entire toenail.

The block started wearing off about an hour ago. Looks like I'll have a few drinks with Mr. Weller this evening.

Sucking it up isn't a wise idea but we all do it...good thing it's just a toenail...an infected pecker wood be wurst.

Decided to go the Rx route. We'll see. Soaking it in an Epson salt bath right now. Hurts like hell.

Had an ingrown toenail years ago when I was 20 or 21. Navy Doc cut it out for me. He gave me a local and I watched him do it. You'll feel a lot better in a week or so.

I think I'd have gotten another opinion.

I miss those military docs. By far the best care I ever received. Had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled about 30 years ago at Pease AFB. Doc did it under general anesthesia. Had some more work done in Norfolk, San Antonio and New Orleans. Easy recover and no complications every time.

She did a great job. The worst part was the lidocaine injections. She wrote me a script for an antibiotic and some cream. Pain went away as soon as I put the cream and band-aid on. The nail was seriously fucked. I really thought it needed to come off as well.

Had one removed when I was still a teenager 16 or 17 I believe, and the toenail still looks all ganked up lol

Watched the Dr remove it and the only thing that made me cringe a little was seeing him shove the long q-tip swab

About 4 or 5 inches up into my big toe , where he had just removed the ingrown toenail (only had half of the toenail removed)
