Or, anyone else that might know ...

A good friend of mine is in San Diego this week & sent back photos of a destroyer leaving port yesterday & a carrier entering today.

Is there anyway to find out what ships they are & the missions they're on ?

Just Curious.

Thanks

There's some big white numbers painted on the bow. Look 'em up. Aircraft carriers are CVN-###, destroyers are DDG-### as all the oil burning steam boiler / turbine ships in these two classes have been retired at this point I believe.

Names should be easy, missions might be classified though.

He just told me the carrier is the Nimitz. No idea on the destroyer.

I thought general mission statements were available.

Thx

What TG said is correct... general mission statement of an aircraft carrier is to bring the fight to wherever it is needed with superior air power, kick ass and take names. Names optional.

General mission statement of the destroyers... protect the carrier, at all costs, from submarines or other aircraft.

Where they're going and what they're doing at any given time is classified information, and not supposed to leave the ship, unless otherwise directed.
