Recently, I won one of 225 units. After not receiving a shipping notification email, I opened my account on cigarbid. The item that was put up for auction and closed was on back order. When ask how can a product up for action be on back order I got a very childish answer. But one thing they said I plainly understood, "they do it a lot." Every auction I have every participated in had two things in common. The first was, the product up for bid existed and two I was required to pay cash upon winning the bid. Sadly, my days with this WEB site are short-lived and I am not alone.

Maybe upon packing all 225 units up for shipping, they discovered a few were damaged or the manufacturer didn't ship the correct product...should they have sent them to you anyways?

Man... it's gotta suck to realize that out of 225 people, you're the one they liked the least. I feel for you.

I've always had an issue with this too. I understand their rationale and it is what it is but it has always rubbed me wrong.

It's a one way transaction. If you win a bid but don't accept the product for whatever reason there is a restocking fee even if the product never shipped. I forget what percentage it is but apparently its $3.75 on a $25 purchase.

On the other hand if they choose not to ship it's just part of doing business and it's ok. I understand inventory issues but you are totally at their mercy and must trust them and accept that there is a difference between the mothership having the item in stock and currently for sale and Cbid having the item.

It would be bad business practice but there is no control protecting the consumer from Cbid simply saying they don't have the product because bids are too low. Sometimes the product is up for bid again when you get the out of stock message on a win. I trust Cbid but it looks wrong and there are no controlls protecting the consumer. It's one sided.

It's a legitimate gripe, although one better made directly to them.

You now know it for what it is. If you continue to buy from them quit your bitchin. If you don't continue to bid I don't blame you. It's a free country.

Stephen -

Looks like DaMarie found a cigar that you found acceptable as a substitute. This would have been done before you began this thread. I wonder why you didn't mention that in your post?

I'm sorry these things happen. As someone said, we often believe we have enough for these large lots but when we get to the bottom of the crate, we find either damaged sticks or a different size than was listed on the box. This does happen a lot. Believe me, we don't want to aggravate people by creating backorders. But when you're dealing with the volume we have and the amount of incoming product from countries that don't have the same standards we do....things happen.

Also believe when I tell you its as frustrating for the CBID CS team as it is for our customers. We'd prefer things ran smoothly and backorders didn't happen. But we're not in control of these situations and we deal with them the best we can....we offer you something comparable or better. We try to make it a win for our customers but, as is your case, we don't always succeed.

I'm sorry you're angry and I can promise you we'll make sure the people who list the lots are aware but in the end, we can only do what we can do which is try to make it up to you.

Stephen! How the hell are you, buddy????

Tough to get anything but childish answers here. I'm as guilty as some.

Glad the CS gals could take care of you.

You need to come out and visit the right coast one of these days.

This has NEVER happened! We've sold plenty of product below our cost. I really don't appreciate this insinuation. There are many people who have entire orders that are below our cost. Not only is it unethical, but its illegal.

Seriously, how can you think this and still use this site?

In the case above, we sent him a churchill size to replace the robusto on backorder. How did we benefit from that? And we do it often in cases of backorders. This is a totally ridiculous thing to say!

I'm pretty sure every order I've had from cbid has either cost them money or barely broke even.

I only underbid.

Trish I did not say it happens if you read it again (including the part you failed to quote). I said it would be bad business practice, and I also said I trust cbid. What I am saying is as a customer we must make the leap of faith and trust you. There are no controls protecting us (a credit card would protect us on charges but not getting the product at auction price) that I am aware of but there are controls protecting Cbid. It's a one way thing.

I also think CS goes out of it's way to make things right and has no control over the machine.

To be clear, I do not think Cbid would or has done that. I do beleive they could. Not much ridculous about that unless you have a dog in the hunt, which I do not.

Many years ago I won some scissors that were back ordered. I don't think any more ever came in but there were several auctions for the same scissors following. I bitched and moaned about it too. When I called CS the only thing similar was a more expensive pair (think Xikar vs. Cheapo made in china). There was no way Cbid would sub that, nor should they. The comprimise was for me to get my money back or spend more to get the more expensive set. They sold me the more expensive set for what they were going for typically on bid. I then gave them to TSA a month or two later LOL.

They made it right, and they always have to my knowledge. It's just a quirky thing and is what it is. You have to trust them or you don't. If you don't trust them don't bid. If you do, do. Easy peasy.

As a customer it is annoying and takes effort to understand. It looks wrong. It has to be a question you get a lot. There is a reason for that. It's too bad there isn't an up front fix for your sake. I wouldn't want to take those calls.
