So...an older, quasi-retired coworker just got her very first cell phone, and through a very long and convoluted sequence of events, ended up with a Galaxy S5. She transferred her landline number to the Galaxy, and cancelled her landline. Made sense, because the cell bill is actually $20 less than her landline bill, she can use this one to send pictures to and from the kids and grandkids, take with her on long road trips to visit family, etc., and she lives alone so how many phones does one person need?

Anyway, she is not the kind of person who carries the thing in her pocket everywhere. She's more the type who puts it on the charger on the kitchen counter at home and leaves it there most of the time, or leaves it in her purse all day.

The problem is this: She has a shop in her basement where she runs a home business and spends a lot of time. When she is down there with equipment running, or really even when she is just in other parts of the house away from her cell phone, she can't hear it ring. With her landline, she had several phones in the house and they all rang at the same time, but obviously that's not the case with the Galaxy. Is there some kind of remote speaker on the market that would ring in other rooms of the house when she gets a call? I know the next issue is going to be, "I can't get to it fast enough when I hear it ring in another room," but right now she is most upset about finding a pile of messages and never knowing that the phone had been ringing at all.

Really, my answer would just be to put the phone in my pocket and problem solved, but...that's not going to happen here. She is NOT a stupid woman...she is a remarkably sharp lady, but she is also decidedly NOT a technology native and right now she's getting comfortable with the device as a PHONE...so that's how she treats it. Perfectly sensible, actually.

So...multiple ringers...any thoughts?

(Yes, I've googled. If it exists, it has a different name, because "remote ringer" gets me "find my phone" kind of stuff.)

Guarandamnteed she keeps that thing in the front of her pants in perpetuity.

Seem to recall a docking station with remote handsets for cell phones. Dunno if they're still available or even if they work but I remember looking at them when I didn't have signal in all but one corner of my house

I have a Panasonic cordless land line system I bought at Costco. It has multiple phones (mine has 5 but they sell with as few as 2 or you can add as many as you like) and an answering machine. It also has Bluetooth and my cell phone connects to it.

When my cell rings it rings on all phones and can be answered on all phones. I just disconnected the land line and the cell still rings through.

When she's home with her cell it would act like a land line. When away with the phone the home system would do nothing. The answering machine would be worthless as well.

She may also need to leave her cell on the main level with the base (not super close but within maybe 50 feet or so.

Unrelated. I'd advise to not leave the thing charging all the time. Batteries have gotten much better and maybe I'm all wet and old school but I think it's best to have a battery cycle.

I just tested it again. I am plugged the landline and went downstairs with my cell phone. It remain connected and rang through. I don't have a huge house but I can't find anywhere in here where it does not remain connected.

Am plugged = unplugged.

I do have a landline in the cool thing is that uses my cell phones ringing when it's a call on my cell phone and my landline's ring when it's a call on my landline. I usually just leave my cell phone in the back bedroom because we have cordless phones all over the house.

The KX-TG787 Series is expandable up to six handsets and also comes equipped with Link2Cell capabilities. Link2Cell allows you to connect up to two cellphones to the base unit via Bluetooth technology. Make and receive cell phone calls on your home phone handsets without the inconvenience of losing service or being tethered to a wall outlet because your battery is running low. You can transfer your phonebook from your cell to the base (up to 3000 names) and even set specific rings so you know which cellphone has a call coming through. With a USB port on the base unit for charging your cell phone and text message alert, which sends a message to your cordless handsets alerting you of a received text message... never miss an important call or message.

Wise advice. Li-Ion batteries, while better than they used to be, still do have a lifespan. Only so many charge cycles before they start to degrade. This is a big problem with notebook computers since people often leave the batteries in all the time, even when on AC power, so when they take their computer which has never really been used on battery but charged / cycled to death, and try to use it on battery, they discover that the 6 hour battery only lasts about 1 hour.

That's true with my work laptop. It's usually in a docking station and now is worthless to travel with.

99 bucks at cotstci right now with $30 off. It's the 5 handset package. $79 for the 4 handset model. That's $20 off.

These are the newest models and have Costco return policy.

Not sure about what's on flea bay. I never shop there due to bad experiences.
