Today four players were elected to the baseball hall of fame.

It was said that Barry Bomds was excluded, because they were afraid he'd get a swelled head.

Hall of Fame is a joke! Seems to me like random people get votes and then decide with own biased reasoning who gets in. I went to both NFL and MLB Hall of Fames when I was a kid and thought I was seeing something special now as an adult I see it is just a sham of what is meant to be something to celebrate great careers in great sports. Sports has gone down the crapper the last decade or maybe even for longer I just didn't see it. If I was not such a diehard sports junky growing up I would have already quit watching them but its like an addiction now since I have been a fan for so long its hard to go cold turkey.

sometimes I think it has gotten cheapened since I was a kid, but I have come aroound to thinking that when I was a kid I was more innocent, easily "wowed" by these superstar athletes, envied and admired their skills etc.

So as i got older, it became more difficult to impress me at the same gut level. Not many folks still get stars in their eyes when they mature and deal with issues larger than who was a better first baseman, ****** Stuart or Fred Whittaker like they argued as kids.

We mock kids who idolize Kobe and LeBron, guys in their 40's-50's tell them they ain't no Jordan/Bird/Magic. Guys my age say Russell still woulda beat them all, Baylor and West and Chamberlain, oscar etc would kill them if born today. Cousy too. And Havlichek would have run them into the ground.

Guys, it's just the same thing...only different!

I think your make a good point when comparing players of different eras but its not the players that I think changed its the meaning behind the sport that has imo. The almighty dollar has taken each sport over to the point where its kind of disgusting. Since when does an athlete deserve the kind of money they make. How can they really justify the ticket prices for these games anymore and thats not even taking into account the $8 hot dog once you are in. Since when does a sport dictate what a state is allowed to do ie sports betting in NJ was put aside the night before it was to start being legal by appeals from the 4 major sporting brands but yet Vegas is still allowed to hold the monopoly on sports betting. Congress involved in the PEDs in baseball made a joke of this country not only for making a big production about every one of those guys testifying under oath but not being able to make any perjury charges stick. Sports sometimes seem to run the country instead of being a reprieve for everyone for a couple hours to take a load off. Obama feels the need to make a statement on every single thing that happens in sports and yet has not figured out to help the working man in this economy crisis or find jobs for everyone for that matter. Sports have become too big for their own good and something so pure and that brought so much joy to my childhood just does not feel the same anymore.
