Yep,
at minimum go with a 120 quart. But I found even they were too small. Right now I have a 150 quart, and a 120 quart. With the orders I have on the way, my 150 will be back at capacity, even after I filled my new 500 stick humidor.

All very good suggestions fella's. Keep this in mind, I've never really "stored" cigars.....at least not yet. I usually keep around 50 to 60 at the moment and just rotated them around. I fill my me gar 50 count humi twice a month. Since joining the site, my numbers have started to go up. I'm not going to bust the 150 number, and that's at the very stop of the spectrum. I don't use cello, I love to rotate and get all of the flavors mingling.

You'll learn pretty quickly that letting your cigars rest for a dozen weeks or more improves your cigar smoking experience and flavor. The extended storage time allows your cigars to properly acclimate to your humi conditions. CC's for example can take years to properly age for the best melding of flavors.

Go bigger than what you think you'll need, and allow for the proper rest between introductions of new purchases. A 50qt cooler costs around $20 and will hold up to 10-12 boxes. Stand the cooler on end so the door opens like a cabinet. Install some shelves made from old cigar boxes, buy some HF beads, and you're all set.

Not sure trading for a humidor is the way to go. If it has to be mailed, anything large enough to trade for is going to be too big to fit in a flat rate box. A decent humidor is going to be relatively heavy for its size which means postage is going to be expensive for someone to ship if they don't have a commercial account.

If it were me, I'd consider a tuppador.

Get yourself one of those clear plastic containers from Wally World. You want the ones with the locking handles. You can get one that's about 24x16x12 for less than 10 dollars. Run a bead of weatherstripping along the top. A roll of adhesive backed foam is prolly less than $5. For about $15-$20 you have a container that will easily hold 300-500 cigars. I used this exact setup for over a year. I kept it in my home office. It stayed a constant 66 rh at 70 degrees. Since you're only about 50 miles away you should be able to expect the same results.


Add a digital hydrometer which you can get for about $15 on bid. You'll also need about a pound of rh controlling media. There are many different ways to maintain rh. Some folks use Heartfelt Beads. Some folks use Boveda packs. Others use the humi tubes. Still others use silica kitty litter. Some use a combination of two. Some use all four.

There is much debate here as to what is best. I have used all of the aforementioned types of media to maintain rh. I have experienced absolutely no difference in rh whether I used HF beads or new silica kitty litter. At the end of the day, it's your choice. The purpose of the media is to maintain a set rh. If you can do it with kitty litter, so be it. If you need HF beads to do it. So be it.

Honestly, I'm getting a kick out of the debate over the humidor topic. Learning a lot about the different options. I guess I'm a traditionalist when it comes to humidors, but I'm always open to ideals. I'm actually in the middle of working a deal with an "un-named" cigar company where I will be doing a little traveling to discuss their line with independent shops. I already have a "ammohumidor" but need a nice humidor for display, plus, my current humidor is getting a little worn (still love the old girl though). I had to part with one of my WWI Combat trench knifes for the ammodor, but it was worth it....I hope. Still waiting on delivery. Have worked out a couple of trades with a couple of great guys here on the forum. So everything is going smooth. I'm going to have to break down and actually purchase (I hate that word) a 40ct. traveldor for when I do hit the road, but that should be a few months down the road. I want to thank EVERYONE that has imparted their opinions and knowledge on this subject. Every word is taken into account and nothing is taken for granite on my end.

Cigar on the topic of coolerdors.... I bought a 50qt cooler about two months ago....and am now scrambling for something bigger.

Any limit you impose on yourself for the amount of cigars you'll have is going to go out the window with every "oh I really like this" and "but the price is just so cheap!" auction you see on here.
