Guitarworld rates "Stairway to Heaven" as the No1 guitar solo!!! Are you freakin kidding me? And you expect that to be a credible source???

Ironically on a google search for "guitarworld no1 guitar solo" this fall as eighth on a search, under all the acclimates for Stairway.

Clapton stole from Harrison - Maybe his wife but George couldn't hold the pick for EC.

Stealing from Beck is laughable. EC was playing with John Mayall long before Beck even made the scene.

Have you ever taken guitar lessons?

I agree with Guitarworld......Stairway to Heaven is the best guitar solo of all time as well as the best rock song ever written IMHO.Jimmy Page plays circles around damn near anyone who has ever picked up a guitar.....Including Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. While I like both neither have ever captivated me the way Page does.......he plays from his soul.

Shocked that no one mentioned Roy Clark

Now I shall set back and enjoy my popcorn........................

Not to debate which guitarist has the best solo, but the OP is certainly a damn good one. I can drift away in musical bliss listening to Gilmore play that song.

On another note, back in 78-79 when this album was released, I got so deep into the wall that I typed out the entire lyrics to the full album, made reference notes & highlights to fully understand the entire meaning of the lyrics, story & history of it all.

It's all well known now 35 years later, but The Wall absolutely fascinated me in my teens & early 20's. In fact, I listened to this album every single night for over two years straight back then.

Needless to say, the follow-up album was a complete let-down to me, and I really didn't like the movie when it first came out.

I wanted to see The Wall in concert, but as much as that album is related to Roget Waters & not Gilmore, he's just a little too weird for me.

Gilmore is an amazing guitarist in his own right.

Always preferred Floyd's Live at Pompeii over The Wall. Remember The Wall being criticized by many for being a pop sell-out when it was released. Although the movie was fun on acid.

Dark Side of the Moon would be my favorite PF album bar none. The Wall was just ok for me.

You must have not heard "All along the watchtower", otherwise there wouldn't be any discussion.

impossible argument. and even though he is not my top pick, I am always amazed that absolutely no one talks about Richard Thompson. Every kind of playing from Fairport Convention stuff to solo ballad and rockin' stuff to Shoot Out the Lights stuff...and still going strong. Has a very dark side too.
